“Any degrees issued may or may not be valid for obtaining professional licenses or employment. Generally speaking, within academic and government circles, such degrees are rejected, but within the business world, it may be acceptable for certain purposes.[24][25] Using a diploma from an unrecognized institution to obtain employment or for any other purpose is illegal in some states.[25] Criminal penalties may apply should such a degree be fraudulently presented in lieu of one from an accredited school.”
how can a degree from a non accredited institution be fraudulently presented? wouldnt a person just present the degree? isnt it up to those doing the hiring to check it out and either accept it or not?
GatorsMOm-so the kids that went to the public schools here when they were not accredited worked less hard as those who went to the same school the very next year when they became accredited?

No fraud. Just dishonesty. This man paid money for a degree - my bet is he said he had life experiences worth xx number of credit hours - the "school" said why yes this qualifies and you need to pay us for those hours to get your doctorate. Degree mill diploma = toilet paper.
Do you know you can buy an American Century University franchise? You, too, could own a degree granting institution - you could become a PhD, too, if you want! Could be the perfect VI business opportunity LOL.
Many of us spend many years in colleges and universities working hard to gain real and respectable credentials. It really is disheartening when vanity degrees are accepted as valid - or not checked. Insulting, actually.
Of course children work as hard as they are challenged at any school. That year without accreditation, I bet, improved the schools for all children going forward. Nonetheless, losing accreditation is extraordinarily serious for a school district.
Public schools and colleges/universities are very different though.

Of course it is. How do many get away with it? Simple - because the vetting and authentication process is sloppy or non existent. Not the first time it's happened and won't be the last. And not just here, either - there have been innumerable well documented and well publicized cases over the years throughout the US and the world.
It wasn't fraudulently represented by him. But any unaccredited "school" that offers franchises is highly suspect, at the very least.

And the vetting process was sloppy in not properly checking the application.
