more about health cards
I will be moving down in about two weeks and planing to get a job bar tending or serving food. I have a few questions about the health card. Do you have to get your sample tested on the island or is that something I could do before I move and bring the paperwork down? Will an employer hire you without a health card if you plan on getting one soon or should I not bother with interviewing until I have one? What kind of sample do they need, I'm thinking Tupperware?lol
yes you do it here on island at one of the labs, an employer here may hire you while you are in the process of getting your card but they run the risk of getting shut down by the health inspector unless the bribe is high enough, if you get hired at a place that employs locals as well there is a good chance that one of them will call the health department and tell them there is a new employee working, i've seen that one happen alot over the years at various hotels on st croix, you can pick up a sample container at any of the labs on island i use the one at beeston hill i generally take my sample with and transfer it from my container to theirs so i don't have to take the container home and come back, it only needs to be the size of a large pea, they are looking for parasites not gold the whole lab thing takes about 30 minutes and runs about 30 bucks you then take your results to the health card department and wait and that costs about 25 bucks and you get you card the same day, today the health cards are a racket and are only used because the government has too many employess on the payroll and they need something to do, years ago i remember being tested for TB,parasites and nail fungus, apparently TB and nail fungus have been eliminated from the food worker population and are no longer issues
Thank you very much for the info. Answered my questions right on the dot! 🙂
