I feel for you. Been there done that with felines. Hopefully you'll find them and then will understand the importance of either having a fenced-in yard or taking them out for walkies on a leash. I'm not doing a "preach" here but, wherever you live on island and however remote and "safe" you think your area is, it's just not something you can ever take for granted.

I'm sure you've already contacted the local vets and the STX shelter and the only other thing I can suggest is making up flyers with their photos to post around the neighborhood. I'm hoping that your dogs, as a few of my felines have done over many years, will show up on your doorstep grinning from ear to ear after their big adventure and only looking a little the worse for wear. Don't let them run free again.

A horrible sight last night was two unleashed dogs attacking & killing a cat, and finally eating it.
The unfortunate cat did put up a good fight, but two hungry dogs was no match for the cat.
Sad situation for all 3 animals.

I hope you find your dogs safe & sound and follow OT's advice. Good luck!

I've gone through that ghastly scenario with one of my rescue (fixed) feline ferals who was attacked by two dogs and dragged through my business parking lot in broad daylight. She was just a big pear-shaped benign love. I rushed her to the vet but she was DOA. Contain your dogs! Unlike cats they have a pack mentality and when they're allowed to roam free they meet up with others and go on the hunt. The pack mentality is inbred and fierce whether your dog is a little chiuhaha or a Rottweiler.

I'm sure this is a scary time for the OP, maybe we should hold off on the horror stories guys 😉

As far as I know, the search for Arnie is still going on 3 weeks now also.

That's my biggest fear, losing my Maggie.

Hi
JUST got on line today. I saw a little black dog with a collar and license AND the other dog you described on July 25th..The little black dog took off in the Bush and the female Ridgeback type jumped into the back of my car (no collar or license)..I took her home and washed her (she was covered in mud)..My dogs didn't look like they were going to get along with her and I took her to the animal shelter in hopes her owners would look for her. This was on the Spring Gut Rd..July 25th
I really hope her owners find her..I had wished I did not pick her up because of the possible outcome..At the time I thought I was rescueing her and I have grieved wondering how she made out..She was a really friendly nice dog..

Dogs are found!
A little thinner, hungry, but no worse for wear.
Thank you for your concerns/comments.
Ms. Hilltop, that was Happy....she roams when her owner leaves island.
We are building a fence this weekend for the Black one (mine).
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

I'm so happy you found the dogs safe and sound and now that you are building a fence.

Best of luck to you and your furry friends! 🙂

I'm sorry if I offended anyone with my "horror story.

I wrote it because my friends and I are so upset over the situation and can't get it out of of minds.
This is the first time it has happened in our area, that we know of, and are afraid that these dogs will come back and attack more family pets and even humans.

I hope anyone that loses their family pet finds them safe and sound!
