*My wife and I are fairly adventurous (we love to travel and truly live for sand and sun) and are entertaining the idea of moving to the islands. We are in our early 30's with 3 children. My wife is in the accounting field and I am a registered representative for investments, now working as a consultant in their home office. In researhing, I have to admit I'm a little concerned with all that I have been reading about the crime. I really don't know where to start looking for "which island" to fit out needs best. Where do I begin looking for jobs (are their positions available in our fields?), safe living, and good schools? I would appreciate any help.
-Thanks!

Hello Matt,

Have you been to the Virgin Islands before? If no I would suggest your first step be to research the islands, read this board, get the Settlers Handbook (look at the top of this page for a link to ordering it) and then plan a pre-move visit where you can plan to visit each island and check them out, see the schools, work places and then decide whether its feasiable for you and actually what you want. With a family its critical you check things out and plan well.

Your wife could find work in accounting... you might need to find a related job with your experience. Researching for job openings; you would need to check out businesses where you might find work; call, fax resumes, visit them on your pre-move for interviews. The yellow pages are on-line at www.viphonebook.com where you can take a look see at the number of say accounting businesses that exist.

I totally understand that this would not be a living vacation. We totally understand that a long visit would be required prior to even realistically considering the move. It seems that if you have children, they would need to go to a private school and $9,000 is way higher than the current tution for their parochial school that they are attending. I appreciate the feed back.

Hello Matt,

Antilles is the most expensive private school on St. Thomas. There are other private and parochial schools that are very good that you should investigate.

Visit https://www.vimovingcenter.com/schools/stthomas.php
and look at some of the schools web sites and call some of the schools and ask questions about their student body, teachers, extra curricular activities, awards, clubs, tuition - you will get a much better perspective that way.
