No ice or cold here in Cancun either.

Rain almost as heavy here the last week as we left on STX the 13th.

I see it's doing it again.

Been driving through an ice forest in Michigan for the last two days -- all the folks we see are an hour north of our home in Michigan, and they got brutalized by an ice storm Saturday -- most all of the family we went to visit have had no power since Saturday night the 21st (which also means no heat, as you need elec to run the furnace fans). Many of their houses are now down to 30-35 degrees INSIDE, and they are dripping water through their faucets to try to keep the pipes from freezing and bursting.

Bad news to have no power or heat of course, but the area is breathtakingly beautiful - every branch of every tree has a 1/2 inch to 1 inch think layer of pure ice on it, and when the sun shines it looks like the landscape is made of brilliant diamonds. 6 inches of snow on the ground up there - it looked like one of those Currier & Ives scetches. Crews from as far away as Kansas have come to try to restore the power. Our house in Mich was about 20 miles below the ice line so we got all rain last weekend, but Santa brought our 5 year old a new sled this year so he's pretty anxious for some snow before we head back home to the VI.

Santa did well for a rain free Christmas day in STT. One of the few we have had in quite awhile! Lovely!
