Hi All,

My husband and I are in the first stages of planning our relocation to STX. We are hoping to bring our Mercedes Benz with us, but were just wondering about service and parts and how easy they would be to find on the island. No point in bringing it if we will have a hard time taking care of it. Oil changes are my main concern because the truck takes a special kind of filter. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I've searched this board and found no info so far....

I'm sure there are folks with an MB there, but I know just getting parts for our Jeep Cherokee sometimes involved waiting a month or more.....I'm pretty sure there's no MB dealership there!

Here's the link to the phone book -

www.viphonebook.com

I only see one link to a place in PR that would have parts under Automotive Repair, but maybe you could try calling a few of the dealerships - there's nothing that looks like it specializes in foreign cars, but maybe someone else has more info.

Becky - thanks for the link - although I have to say I was disappointed to read about the Jeep Cherokee parts as that is our other vehicle that we will be bringing.

I'm going to look up some mechanics and possible bring at least the basics with me from MD when we move - filters, brake pads and such!

My husband brought an old Triumph (long, stupid story) with us to STX. He orders parts from a catalog and has them mailed USPS to us, only takes a few days. Our regular car guy does the work. This system has worked well for us. I'm sure you can order Mercedes parts on line.

As far as our car guy goes -- he blesses the day we set foot on-island. He is presently building a multi-million dollar home in Judith's Fancy and has 2 children attending Harvard. And that, my friends, is an example of sarcastic humor!!!

There are all sorts of cars here, you name it. There are mechanics that can fix them as well. Parts can be overnighted once you find a good source. There are several local parts houses that do that. At least in St Thomas. There was a guy that sold and serviced Mercedes in St Croix. His name was Larry, last name escapes me at this time. I saw his shop and it looks like it's still running last time I passed in April. It's in Orange Grove. Does not look like the sales operation is up though. For a new car, Garage Isla Verde, the official dealer in Puerto Rico, will send a tech over to do warranty work as long as you pay the airfare.
