I apologize in advance for the nature of this topic but not sure where else to ask. My husband has now in a sudden rage tried to commit suicide twice (first cutting, then pills) this past week. He needs treatment. He is afraid to leave to go back to the mainland because he thinks he will be fired from his (still temporary) position here. He is a great man but something inside of him causes these outbursts. He always regrets it aftwerwards, but I'm now too scared to not do something about it. He is already on an antidepressant which has helped him from breaking things, but this new stream of rage is even scarier. Is there anywhere on STX or any advice you all can give me to get my husband some help and not lose his job?
thanks,
Dispirited

Dispirited, please send a pm to the forum contributor registered as "DanielJude". Although he is not currently practicing, I understand that he is a mental health professional and is on STX. In addition to being a good ear, he may be able to provide you with some local resources.

Hoping you and hubby get through this crisis safely,
Onika

The Governor Juan F. Luis Hospital has a full range in patient psychiatric treatment center, staffed by a board certified psychiatrist (Dr. Olaf Hendricks). I understandthat may not be your first choice, but it is an option. The units phonme number is 772-7364, or you can go though the admission process via the ER.

thank you so much for all of your advice... We just got back from a psychiatrist and have been given new medication. Hopefully that will help.
Thanks again

Dr. Neugart is highly recommended by many - patients and fellow health care professionals alike.

Hello there. Sorry to have been off of the board for awhile. Just for clarification, I have started to practice again and am contracted with a couple of agencies for individuals with certain situations that also have MH concerns. Please do let me know if someone is in a difficult place (and thank you for doing so)!

As the hospital setting is challenging for many people, especially in terms of self-concept, I will meet people who have trouble emotionally or otherwise getting out of their house in their own home. Also, if someone does go to the hospital, I may be of help in bypassing the 'holding tank' at the hospital and getting admitted without having to sit in a locked room.

A final note, I think Dr. Neugart is a bit overloaded. I did try recently to make a referral to this Dr. and was unsuccessful. I am certainly not trying to give a negative slant on a Doctor that has quite a great reputation, however reality is that she can only see so many people.

Although I am limited in the number of hours I can work because of my spine, I can certainly make time for things and people that need immediate attention. It is what I committed to many years ago as part of a larger professional committment.

Thanks again,

Dan
