mental health
Hi. Is there any mental health in the Islands? oh, excuse me I mean mental health clinics or psychiatric hospitals? I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner and am interested what is offered in the islands as far as this goes. Also, anyone know if there are nurse practitioners there and if they can prescribe meds? In advance thanks for your help. deb
Im curious myself. I too am a psychiatric nurse, a BSN though. I will be in St Croix Feb 7-14th. I always investigate such things in warm tropical places! I'll let you know what I find. I'll watch for responses to your message. Good Luck, Patricia

thanks islander. another question. here in the states we have nurse practitioners who prescribe medications, diagnosis and treat. Is there something similar there? Also: are there any out patient mental health clinics or psychiatrists who treat people outside the hospital setting? thanks deb
Hello Deb,
I don't know the laws pertaining to nurse practioners prescribing meds.
Yes there are psychiatrists here and psychologists and there is a gov't mental health outpatient system. Check the yellow pages for listing http://www.viphonebook.com.

Go to the STT hospital website & email the hospital with your questions, they will have the answers.
BTW Islander: The http://www.jflusvi.org/ doesn't work, it's a dead-end.
Hey ParrotHead - I just double checked and the site opened fine. The link is fine try again.
