Medicare
My mother in law will be moving with us to STT. Based on the research I have done it looks like she can still receive Medicare in VI. I will be calling the V.I.SHIP office this week to get more information, but was wondering if anyone has had any issues maintaining Medicare after moving from the mainland? She has diabetes and knee issues. Is it just as easy to get appointments and care there as it is on the mainland? Her receiving healthcare could be the only deal breaker for our move, so insider information from locals will be very helpful. Thank you.

here is a link to the local phone book-call dr.s to see if they take new patients. also make sure there are the dr.s she requires. there is a lot of diabetes on island so she should have no trouble finding a dr
we do have health care here. we are not third world, lol
lot of people though do move back to the states for health reasons. and still a lot of people go to puerto rico or the states for treatment.
but we do usually have plenty of dr.s for most people
Medicare works very well. That and the USPS! LOL
We do have an endocrinologist, Dr. Barzey. Tons of orthopedic surgeons and physical therapy practices. (IMHO, I would watch out for the physician-owned PT practices and stick with the ones owned by PTs, like Horizon, Therapy Works, and Synergy.) Diabetes is very common here. There are good primary care physicians and urgent care for back-up. (tu)
Thank you!!
Both Social Security and Medicare work well here. Go online change address. But, you must separately change your Part D, prescription drugs for it is insured separately. I did all Miya changes online in about 10 minutes, no problems.
