Maureen O'Hara
Anyone out there have any Maureen O'Hara anecdotes to share? I bought the new book, 'Tis Herself, a couple of months ago. There is a fair amount about her years on St. Croix with Captain Charles Blair of Antilles Air Boats.
When John Wayne visited St. Croix in the late 1970s, my upstairs landlord was the bartender at the welcoming party.
Her home was one of the first landmarks pointed out to us as we were driving around with our real estate agent during our premove visit -- it's just lovely. Does the book -- or can long any long-time Crucians -- tell anything about the house? I'd love to know what the round room/outbuilding was used for.

If you look closely, I think you'll see two rounded sections. One is smaller than the other. I assume they're just rooms with a design for catching the tradewinds. Windows are wrapped all the way around. The house was built for them when they moved here in 1968 to start the plane company.
For those of you who don't know, you can see the house up on top of a hill as you leave Christiansted and start heading up the hill on Route 70 toward Sunny Isle. There's a sharp curve to the right and an old, low Danish wall on the left. The house is right above the sharp curve. It's light yellow with, as I recall, light green trim. It looks like something out of The Jetsons.
