Manhole Cover Thieves???
I don't enjoy one bit bringing up negative topics... Specially since this board is followed by people, like me, who are seriously considering flocking over to the VIs...
This article caught my attention... On top of going through a very tough economic transition, now you have to add a few lowlifes that are more than willing to put others life in danger with no remorse whatsoever... One thing is to steal copper wiring, but to steal manhole covers takes it to a new level... I know these %&*! egoists don't care about other people but what saddens me the most is how they don't care about our most precious gift: LIFE... All for a few bucks...
In the end it reads "issuing a strong warning"... Enough of the warnings that fall on deaf ears... Elected officials get voted on to act, not talk (or worse, sing)... Irresponsible scrap metal companies that accept these items are just as guilty... Then again, this is reality, and it just my wish...
Please, spread the word... Removing a manhole will put anything alive in danger... Forget about the damage it can do to a car by ripping the suspension, it will rip your life, or hurt anything and/or anybody really bad... Of course, that includes spreading disease, or causing an outbreak...
Potentially, they could move on to other things... your home windows, gates, guardrails, lamp posts, etc...
I would just shut down those scrap companies. Apparently no matter how many warnings, these guys are still scrapping things that aren't scrap!!
Yeah, I don't get why they can't bust these people already. It should be simple enough since the scrap companies are known.
Especially with the manhole covers now - what scrap company would even buy them because obviously they are stolen!
There must be something else going on with - maybe people are using boats to get the stolen goods off island? Or inside jobs with cargo companies or planes?
More likely someone is filling a container full and then shipping it off island.
Just like the sitcom, "All in the family", the criminals, salvage owners, and authorities are all in the family!!!!!
As they say in 'Joisey', Trow da bums out!
Welcome to the new St. Croix.
Imagine what it'll be like a few years down the line when most of the remaining middle class have left and the poverty becomes acute.
So sad to watch this happen right before our eyes.
Copper phone lines were stolen last week, causing an outage of 2 days or more for 130 customers around Salt River STX. The thieves repeated the crime last night.
