I am an Assistant Director of Finance in a Marriott Hotel in St Louis, Missouri. I got a job offer from a Whyndam hotel in St Thomas. I am making around 40K a year in St Louis. When they asked me about a figure, I was not sure because I understand that the cost of living is really high. Could somebody help me?

As a sales manager on STT I am accustomed to making into 100K range, but that is all commission-based. I realize that your position is different, but I would say that a salary of $50K would be nearer to what your position would would pay here. Things ARE more expensive here, so the salaries must coincide to provide the same standard of living here. And remember...always start high! You can always negotiate! For example, if they were firm on $40K, but would pay for all of your moving and living expenses...well, that doesn't sound too bad. Even if they were to pay for your move and then give you a $500/mo. housing allowance, that won't pay for your housing, but it IS another $6K/yr.

Maisa, do you know of a website link where the Whyndam posts open positions. I also work in Finance, and will be moving to STT the beginning of December. Thanks,
Patrick
