making a living selling timeshares
Does anyone know if it is possible to make a living on any of the islands selling timeshares?
I sure made a nice living doing it for 7 1/2 years. I started as a regular 'line' salesperson, then got promoted to 'in-house', then to Asst. Sales Manager, then to Sales Manager. An average income to expect would be in the neighborhood of $60K/yr...more if you are good...less if you are not.
Actually had two friends on STJ who sold for the Westin and did very well. One moved on to the Marriott on STT and is now in Hawaii.
Awesome news!
I have a background in sales and have been on enough time share tours to know the deal- not to mention, boyfriend shawno used to sell in the Poconos. He seriously told people they could hand feed giraffes from their balconies if they traded their time and went to Disney.
Anyway, I may have to abandon my teaching dreams to keep a roof over my head. I'll finish the certification because I would still like to be involved in the public school system. Maybe I could do some sort of assisting on a volunteer basis and work around the time share schedule.
Thanks for the info. A long-term plan is starting to come together.
Hi all,
I have over 12 years in sales and 8 years are as a GSM, would this be a better job and more money that selling for DI? If so would someone please tell me how to apply to some of these company's. We plan on relocating in Sept. and would I would like to find employment before relocation.
Thanks
Hell, I'm always looking for sales people......no health benefits or 401k provided.....unless of course you can really sell.
Promoguy - what do you sell??
promoguy is in Los Angeles.
I have family in LA, where do you sell?
And that's Los Angeles, not luiseeeaner. Yeah, but I have business in the VI's developed over the years of visiting and aggravating people in my most professional style. LOL
It's the promotional products business.
Actually all over the US. Promotional products business. But my world headquarters, if you're familiar with the Los Angeles is the barrio of Van Nuys.

Coincidentally, this thread just appeared on the message board of the Timeshare Users Group (www.tug2.net) a website for timeshare owners. It provides insight to the other side of the equation, the point of view of the timeshare purchaser.

$60k sounds good? In the VI?
Marty, give us the dish. Did $60k really afford you a nice VI lifestyle?
Of course it can depending on if you have kids to feed/educate or tons of debt to pay off. Most who live here aren't eating out every night or island hopping weekly.
If you want to mantain your job in selling timeshare on the Island your only option is to make a good living. The $60k mark would put you right at minimum standards where you would probably be at risk of seperation from the company. I have friends who have made close to $350k in one year here on Island and I have known people that have lost their jobs within 3-6 months after going on the line because they just did not perform.
If you are serious about looking into it most of the companies are looking for new sales people all the time.
Blu and David:
I was always a top producer, so my income was somewhat higher than the average...however, some of my salespeople only made fifty, and they still lived comfortably. I know people now that only make 30K/year and they, too, seem happy...and they are still employed. It's just a matter of what you are accustomed to, what your bills are and how well you plan your finances. For me, well, I have zero debt, so I was eating at nice restaurants, going out to bars, spending money hand over fist, etc. everyday. I always seemed to spend whatever I made, though. If my paycheck was $5k, it'd be gone by next payday. If my check was only $2K, I'd just have a little less 'fun' before payday. These days...well, I don't spend nearly the amount I did when I was making more...but I'm still broke come payday! Haha! (who am I kidding? I don't HAVE a payday anymore! I'm unemployed, so I'm always broke! Haha! Sheesh! I need to get back to work!)
Marty? Life can't be too bad if you are unemployed and living on STT. I want to move in the worst way but I'm worried about obtaining employment. I'm working in the oilfield (60 hours a week) now and I don't want to bust my booty for the rest of my life.
Needless to say - I didn't win the Mega-millions last night 🙁 Boo Hoo
Jennifer:
No, life isn't too bad...there are worse places to be unemployed! Haha! But, my bank account is shrinking daily...and getting my new business (Marty's Mobile Mechanic Services) licensed is turning out to be quite a bit more difficult than I had planned! (the VI no longer issues licenses for what I want to do, so I have to try to get them to change their policies...ugh!).
As far as moving here without having a job first, a lot of people do it...but their new job is quite often completely different than what they did in America. Like, many people get jobs in the service industry, never having been a waiter/waitress/bartender/etc. before...or they've never worked on a sailboat and get a job being a mate. Things like that. Since we have no oilfields here...I think you'd be one of the ones doing something different! Haha! But, odds are you'd be working less than 60 hours a week, so there's that! yay!
christie - there aren't opportunities to sell time shares on STX at this time. Perhaps if some of the planned developments occur, there will be some time share properties included in the mix of what gets built. I know that the Mills of St. Croix project is supposed to include time shares as part of the real estate offerings.
Alexandra: I spoke to the new PD at Chenay Bay when he called me for a reference on a couple of my previous employees, so Chenay Bay is active...isn't Divi Carina Bay still selling, too? I think they are....
Marty, have you called Mr. LeBron to help get your business license? He can work miracles & was worth it when I used him several years ago.
Lebron was very helpful when I was thinking of having my business name in the VI's. Although I was in Los Angeles, they were good enough to fax me all information and take my telephone calls. Definitely, couldn't recommend them more. I think that most wonderful man in the whole wide world RonnieL got me their information.
"I think that most wonderful man in the whole wide world- Ronnie L"
Sheesh, there you go giving him the big head....
I actually have a picture of me and him and well....he does have a big head. But a basically very decent human being....right????
