We have a Senator willing to sponsor the bill.
We need as many signatures as we can get.
Thank you!
And who is this senator?
Signed
And who is this senator?
You'll find out when the time is right.
Thank you, geekgirl1337!
And who is this senator?
You'll find out when the time is right.!
Does the senator not want to be identified? If not, why not? (Is the senator a chicken?) When is "the right time"?
When we get enough signatures on the petition as possible.
So just sign it, OT.
It's going to be an uphill battle, as you well know, to get such a bill passed given the mentality and attitudes in VI and of many of our Senators so better to wait instead of putting the cart before the horse.
It's not my announcement to make, in any case, even tho I know which senator it is since I put the creator of the petition in touch with the senator willing to sponsor.
Just help us get as many signatures as possible by signing and sharing.
Thank you.
So the senator will only sponsor introduction of a bill if a certain number of residents sign a petition. Too bad the good senator doesn't have enough personal conviction to make a move.
Good grief, OT.
Senator never said what you infer.
You're jumping to conclusions and putting words in my mouth.
Give it a rest.
Either sign or not but this nitpicking isn't getting us anywhere.
In order to get a bill like this passed, the more signatures, the better.
You should know how hard it was and how long it took to get a basic animal cruelty bill passed. Help, don't hinder.

It's all BS. It's fake and a lie.
It's not BS nor a lie.
It's better to attempt to make things better than to do nothing.
To create negativity and doubt helps nothing.
Good grief, OT.
Senator never said what you infer.
You're jumping to conclusions and putting words in my mouth. /quote]Not at all. Going strictly from your own words and clear inference, viz, "You'll find out when the time is right" and, "When we get enough signatures on the petition as possible." It seems a reasonable assumption to make.
It's not BS nor a lie.
It's better to attempt to make things better than to do nothing.

It is BS. There is no senator behind this. It's just another PR attempt.
You're entitled to have a wrong opinion.
I said we have a Senator to sponsor the bill.
Not that one was behind the creation of the petition.
And what would be the PR attempt?
Frankly I just don't understand the negativity and BS with regard to this petition. It's a positive thing.
I don't believe that there is a senator that is saying you get enough signatures and I'll sponsor a bill. Until then, don't let anyone know who I am.
That's BS.
I never said that.
OT inferred it. You ran with it.
That's wrong.
I said:
"It's not my announcement to make, in any case, even tho I know which senator it is since I put the creator of the petition in touch with the senator willing to sponsor."
I'm trying to help this petition get shared and signed by as many as possible and to, hopefully, get this cruel and barbaric sport made illegal like in the majority of the U.S. states.
If you want to help, great. Sign and share.
If not, at least don't attempt to create negativity and cast droubt.
Help or do nothing but don't hinder those that wish to see this come to fruition.
Another law, that if passed, that will not be enforced.
How many VI registered voters have signed the petition?
signed also
So why doesn't this senator just sponsor a bill? There is no requirement to have online petition support is there? I'm not trying to be negative but this does seem odd.
That's why I said:
"In order to get a bill like this passed, the more signatures, the better.
You should know how hard it was and how long it took to get a basic animal cruelty bill passed. Help, don't hinder."
It took forever to get a basic animal cruelty bill passed with Senator Donastorg's help. That didn't mean that people gave up or stopped trying or we wouldn't have one at all. We've tried before to get cockfighting banned. It didn't happen then but it doesn't mean it never will and we should "give up."
Y'all just need to stop with the negativity.
How many signatures did the senators gather when then they decided they were going to split $1.5 million to use as campaign slush funds... Err I mean to give to charities? My only point is there needn't be ANY public support for a bill to be raised. If a senator is waiting to see what the public support is before proposing a bill then he/she is spineless.
That's quite true, sparty but to sway those senators that are stuck back in the dark ages and see nothing wrong with cockfighting, the more signatures the better.
Let's start another thread if we're going to discuss the $1.5M slush fund. That's a good one.

I am against this practice for sure. I've actually been to a cockfight and it's pretty barbaric.
As a previous poster suggested...just another law that won't be enforced.
I'm all for cock fighting if it reduces the feral chicken problem on STX.
Maybe we should be supporting cock fighting instead of trying to ban it.
Besides...isn't it a cultural thing?
Obviously, I could not care less.
If you limit signatures to VI registered voters, I'll sign.
Good grief.
It's not my petition.
I didn't create it.
If you're a registered voter and want to sign, then do so.
Dont threaten not to sign if people without VI voter's registration have signed. That's stupid. I dont have control over who signs nor does the creator of petition.
