Lot next to Schooner Market
Does anybody know what they are clearing the lot for...???
The plan was to develop that as the new "Gannet" location. Their present space in the back of Welcome was always intended to be temporary. Gannets and Schooner Bay are now owned by the same family.
maybe Gannett's new location.......
With Home Depot opening and state side prices, this will be a tough go.
I heard it is going to be temp parking while they repave the schooner parking lot.
Can't figure out why we need 2 hardware stores a few blocks apart??? I'd rather see a really good bakery there!
It's some pretty extensive clearing just to be a temporary parking lot. When Gannett's first opened, in their current location, there was word out that they would be building a new store in that area.
Seems like a really bad idea to me. I mean, have you been to Home Depot?? We're going back today "just for fun". Now, I realize some of their prices are probably grand opening, temporary, prices, but still....even if the prices of some things double, they will still be 2/3 the price of GBH or Gannett's. Not everything, but certainly enough that I actually said to my husband this morning that I don't see any reason I would ever bother with GB again (unless I just happen to be in the neighborhood and need something small).
An added plus, the Home Depot is a very easy, convenient drive for us.
According to Stephanie (the owners daughter) it is going to be a parking lot. She did not indicate that it was temporary.
Mary, from Gannet, told a friend of mine they cleared it to be a parking lot.
Why do we need 2 hardware store within a block? Because competition is the key. In the states you frequently have Lowe's and Home Depot across the street from each other. Besides, when I'm doing a job on the east end and need some wire or a bracket or something simple I don't want to be driving all the way out to HD.
why does gannet or schooner bay need a bigger parking lot. lately the one they have is barely full. unless they are going to share the cost with sharkeys.
maybe its going to be a TACO BELL !!!!:D
pave paradise and put in a parking lot.
isn't that what joni mitchell said......maybe she knewalong
Today there were bulldozers spreading out what looked to be 10-15 dump truck loads of base gravel. No forms for foundations, etc., so sounding like it's going to be a parking lot. Of course there wasn't any drainage as we all know everything drains into Gallows Bay "square". Hope they pave the road that runs from Sharkey's to the north! That sukkah has some good bumps in it!
There are signs up on the doors at Schooner bay requesting that people park over there when they are fixing the rest of the parking lot - and they will have somebody help bring your bags out to your car.
So it sounds like they are really planning to fix the "gut" that is now the parking lot.
