Does anyone know why the search for the missing woman was called off?

Was she found? I Would think they would search more then 2 days.

There is a search and rescue and then when that fails a recovery. Have they stopped them both?

The search was ended, without rescue or body recovery. There has been no sign of the woman so it has been deemed futile to persist.

the coast guard called off the search but now the police are looking. the police contacted my boyfriend to use his rental Jet Skis in Frederiksted and help look as my boyfriend has search and rescue training.

ok thanks for your response. It just seems like the search was called off so quickly. Would hate to think of her laying someone on a beach.

Hey if it happens to me........search for at least a week ok???

"laying someone on the beach"

would it be inappropriate to smirk at that? 😉

These waters are so deep and so cold that after 48 hours with no sign of anything it is pointless to search any longer. It doesnt matter what it is, a boat, a plane, anything. It sounds bad but there are sharks out there too, and are waters are a bad area to be lost at sea in, the way the currents go there is nothing, if your body survived it would be weeks before you'd end up on a shore somewhere. Very very sad.

No, that island is Green Cay on the North Shore of the island - by Buck Island. Ruth Island might be the island on the South Shore - by Hovensa. Is that what that island is called?

Ruth Island is the manmade island just outside of the Hovensa/Container port harbor. It was made from the original dredgings when the harbor was constructed. It has a nice little bay on the west side with a weekend camping hut on it.
So that would put it on the south shore of STX.

"A search team from the Department of Planning and Natural Resources found the boat that capsized Sunday south of St. Croix, and the woman missing from the accident has been identified as 45-year-old Yolonda Ruiz of St. Croix. "

Dntwtup - you're a funny one. One minute you're admitting to watching real Houswives NYC, (yes I will admit to my trashy pleasure) and the next you're posting concise info on current events with links to back them up - gotta luv ya!
