looking for pm doctor
Good evening .I will be moving to STX soon and in this process of tying up loose ends before the move. I have been under pain management for 5 years, and will continue for another 2 years I'm sure. If anyone knows of a reputable doctor who specializes in this field please let me know. One that does acupuncture would be great also. I have done a little research and have had no luck. Thank you very much, this board has been of great help
I have a friend here who is under pain management. I will try to get him to contact you. There is an acupuncturist on island that treats my daughter. I will try and find her name.
Sorry I don't have all this information right away. Don't worry. It is possible to live here and get treatment.
Tam

There use to be a very nice woman who lived over in Peters Rest who posted here under the name "HipCrip". I haven't heard from her in years, I hope she is still alright, even if she isn't on the island.
She often stated that getting sufficient pain management drugs was very difficult here. Her local doctors here were not aware of the latest protocols in regards to pm. I know she often had to fly to Puerto Rico to get the help that she needed. Maybe things have changed in the past two years.
I often wonder what happened to HipCrip. I do know that she posts that she way very happy here. I had just moved to the island and shortly afterwards she quit posting. She also posted that she had lived much longer than she was told by doctors that she would live. I have great admiration for her. She seemed to live her dream in spite of her physical challenges.
A few years ago they arrested a pain management specialist on STT. I forget his name but it was big news and many patients were devastated. Pain management is not easy to get here because the VI government views pain management MDs like crack dealers. Anyone with chronic medical needs who is considering moving here needs to investigate their options thoroughly beforehand, and be aware that many people, including medical specialists, come and go, so you may have to fly to Puerto Rico to have your needs consistently met.
I have heard through the coconut telegraph that Hip Crip is still on STX, just no longer posting on the forum.

This is a sample of some of her wisdom from three years ago.
Hey Hipcrip, remember me and my blue coconut from years ago MardiCroix...
ms information, thank you for your help. I will keep researching this. I would hate to think that i would have to give up my dream of living on the island, while I'm still able to enjoy it. Thank you everyone for your help, not giving up yet! I found a # to call on the old thread, i will try that.
If you can't find what you need in the USVI you might also consider looking into getting treatment in Tortola BVI. Not positive but I think things are a little less stringent there and it's just a ferry ride away as opposed to a flight.
Hope it helps, good luck
No ferry ride from STX to Tortola. One must get to STT first.
There;s a doctor here on STT who has been advertising a lot & is supposedly trained at Duke. I don't know anyone who has been to her.

I will second him... after years of heart palpitations/chest pain/extreme rapid heart beat/etc and many, many different doctors and different diagnosis... I was talking to Peter socially and mentioned the problem... he gave me his opinion, mentioned a couple of things to cut out of my diet and the heart palpitations decreased by about 90 percent.
Your right Liz, I was thinkin STT to STX. So it would be two ferries, my bad.
There is a new place called Acute Alternative Medical group. on STX the web site is www.health@acutealternative.com phone # is 340-772-2882. They are across from the Island Center.
They do Electro Acupunture and pain management.
I have not used them but they might be worth looking into.
I have also used Peter Stewart for Acupunture and he is very good.
I hope this info. helps.
