Good luck in getting any companies to come there and employ people with the general bad attitudes displayed on this web site......and you wonder why unemployment is so high there.....

Richard:

I apologize; upon reading your previous posts, you did - in fact - mention "casting" possibilities.
And to clarify, sir, not all those on this forum have bad attitudes: you know how "swans" can be when protecting their families!

Best to you,
Swan

Casting....yes....I do lost wax casting, shell casting , colloidal silica casting, sand casting, investment casting, and spin casting.....only in metals without Iron or lead. I also have a laser for making patterns and products. I have been casting for artists and sculptors for over 30 years. I would like to bring a 3000 pound tilt furnace to the islands for casting sculpture and assorted other items.

Richard: Well, sir, you may truly be an asset to our fabulous Caribbean crafters after all! Welcome. Swan will now lower the defensive posture and relax its wings.

All the best.

My jewelry molding and casting equipment will be on St. John in November. And we would be happy for anyone who wants to visit us at that time to bring your jewelry projects for a quote on molding and or casting.

Hi gparrot,

I live on STJ and find this casting thing fascinating as I know nothing about it. You mentioned your furnace. What fuel does it run off? I am sure you know how delightful our power company, WAPA, is. I really am just curious as to how it is done. I think, from the sounds of it, that you could be onto something here. It is not always easy living on STJ, but trust me, we are a tight little community that takes care of one another. For me, it is living in paradise. Welcome!

Any way you could run that furnace off of tan tan wood? LOL you could charge for clearing tan tans and get your fuel for free!! I know, it is not possible, just wish it was. I hope you do GREAT! I'm rooting for you.

Actually, all of our furnaces burn propane......which I know is available there. We have smaller furnaces for smaller projects. Our ovens are electric. Sorry cannot help you with the wood problem....

Here's the thing. You could make your wares in the VI, and export them anywhere you wanted to, for the same price as from WI... I don't see the downside, unless you hate beautiful beaches, et al, blah blah blah. Lemme see... VI, WI.... VI or Wis freaking consin... Tough call.... Okay, we're going with VI, final answer... 😉

onthespot........ In my research for my move, I went to several other islands, and was very impressed with the desire for items "Made in the Caribbean." On the 2 St Martens, several merchants told me that they would be very excited to receive items made on St. John. I received the same reaction in the Bahamas, and on the Cayman Islands. On Jamaica and a few other islands, I was invited to move my company to their islands. I have no doubt that exporting to other islands in the Caribbean will be a large part of our business.

I have been posting here for more than 8 years. Most people here know me, Ric, and our story. Please check my past posts. I have NEVER attacked anyone, either directly or indirectly. Often, I am chided for being a cheerleader for STX.

My original posting was an opinion and stated as such. My second posting was a serious question - I actually don't know anything about the zoning laws for manufacturing on STJ. I assume you will need to determine if manufacturing is even allowed.

So often we see people come to the USVI with unrealistic expectations, only to leave bitter and disappointed. Better to know it all, the good and the bad.

Has anyone expressed interest in partnering with you?

And now I will exit this thread for good.

Here's my opinion from sunny St. Croix, that you don't give a "rat's ass" about ( your words)...
The people you are telling to 'go away' have a right to question you and are long time posters on this board. This board, which is for postings about 'relocation and living' in the USVI. We have wasted two pages on you asking for money for a purported project. Community/Posters: he didn't ask for info about edcs or whether the islands needs someone else selling tourist crap, he just wants your money.

Islander should delete this thread so others seeking same won't be encouraged to do the same. I am reluctant to post because it just keeps getting bumped to the top of the board! Then some lil old lady with too much money will read it and may be persuaded to sink her savings into his 'business plan'

Good evening,

Richard? I'm sorry;but it is I once again with a question I can't seem to answer in my search: Under Green Parrot Metals, a Richard Fletcher is named as the "owner." Another individual, named Richard "Sletcher" is also listed as an "owner." Close...hummmm.

Are they both you? Or are you partners? And - if you are partners - why are you seeking a "partner" in your endeavor to manufacture ? on ST. John when, in fact, you already have a partner in your business? Just asking for clarification please. (STX residents are very kind and not nasty and/ or naughty children BTW.)

Thank you,
Swan

I looked back over your posts and I found that you have had to apologize numerous times for coming across as offensive. I find you rather self-opinionated and very bombastic ...passive aggressive to the extreme.
I didn't realize that you were married to "poorthang"...now he really was horrid.
I agree that honesty is the best policy, but "should" and "must" tends to come across as just really snotty and demeaning.

Several years ago...someone made a typo on my name.....then sold the information to companies that would be interested in my services...Every time someone would call or send me information with the Sletcher name I would correct them....but the damage had been done....I still 15 years later receive letters, calls, etc with the name Sletcher attached to them. I would love to get rid of that typo error....but just do not know how to do it. My name is Richard Fletcher and I have no partners. I wouldn't be looking for a partner now....if the economy was in a better state. I have property in Wyoming that originally I planned on selling in order to pay for the move to the islands....but nothing is selling here....not even a house on a 40 foot wide trout stream with a guest house in the woods of the Big Horn Mountains.

Swan...I appreciate your genuine question... I will answer any and all questions from individuals with a genuine interest in what I want to move down to the VI. I am not interested in fighting or defending myself with individuals who are on here merely to disrupt this thread. Thanks again for your interest.

I don't see why you are blasting Linda J? The question she asked is valid, what about zoning? Some people, not saying this is you, come to the islands with the expectations that it is a free for all; build a shack and live on the beach, forage for food in the rain forest, live off the little hats they weave from palm trees.
Sometimes the rules on islands are stricter than in the states. For example, Catalina Island off CA will not allow any more cars on island unless one leaves.
My impression, no basis from personal knowledge, is that STJ is similar to Sedona, AZ. There, things are very strict, in fact the McDonald's in Sedona has to have turquoise roof instead of the red roof that every other place in the world has. Certain types of businesses are discouraged or prohibited.
Just because people are asking questions and not jumping up and down cheer leading doesn't mean they are putting you down, maybe they are trying to make sure that you have thought out and sought out everything. Maybe their question is something you have taken for granted or hadn't though of.
Have you checked the zoning? What about business license, and how long will it take to get one? WAPA fees, will it make it cost effective? Shipping of propane to STJ? Does or can WAPA get enough power to the area for your oven? Is there a building available in an area that is large enough.
I hope you all the best, as I am sure Linda J does as well, just asking not cheer leading.
