We have a Jeep Liberty in our fleet. It has had a ton of electrical issues.

Can't help you with one for sale but I am on my third Jeep Liberty and I love it. It's a 2012 Jet Edition. Never had any issues with them, all three have been driven on St. Croix, and I think it is a great vehicle for the islands. Maybe try Centerline Rentals STX as they do sell them from time to time.

I just brought a Tacoma from Ft. Lauderdale with Blue Ocean transport. If you buy a vehicle that size, your looking at about 2500.00 in costs before you get it on the road here. (Shipping, road tax, Registration). Just keep that in mind. Too me it was worth it because the truck wasn't beat all to @#$$ and overpriced. I don't know how good of a vehicle a jeep liberty is but I see a lot of them. I think there is at least 10 dark blue ones with the hood faded out on STT.:D

Hard to go wrong with a Toyota, If I lived on STX I would drive an F150.

Runs great! Doesn't have all the computer crap under the hood, either.
Looks pretty darned good, too!

Can’t and don’t want a truck. A liberty was never in our minds as I know they have issues but they seem to fit the bill. And yes it’s more rugged than his current Kia Sportage 4cl lol. We can’t use that for our STJ job we need 4wd. My commander isn’t 4wd and won’t make Carolina turns and hills without the rear sliding around and it’s way too big to make tight turns way up in coral bay.

Since we’re STILL in court over our stolen CRV he doesn’t want another CRV which is my suggestion but can’t get him to go for it. We also don’t want another V8. Love my commander but the gas mileage is not great which is also why we don’t want a wrangler - plus I could never drive the wrangler as I’m too short lol. Tons of parts and mechanics to work on jeeps also. In fact I usually do most of my own mechanics on my commander, it’s pretty easy. I know they don’t have the best rap but what car that lives here does?

A little added weight in the rear such as a 60 lb. bag of concrete. (or 2) does wonders for light rear ends in vehicles without auto 4WD especially on steep hills and corners where traffic has stopped on wet, slick roads, with running water, muddy or not and an idiot is in front of you spinning his wheels, trying to get traction.

How about a Subaru Explorer or Outback? I purchased an 2011 Outback for use in FL. It's been a great car. Too many bells and whistles for an used to be island truck driving girl but it been a good vehicle.

Been lucky to get what suits me, has been dependable and cost very little money for repairs over the years.

Good point about the flood/water damage. I bought a F150 and a Impreza from FL and had them shipped. All in with shipping, road tax, registration, it was about $2,400 for each of them. Had friends check out the cars I found and lots of them had total rusted undercarriages. I love my Impreza. I don't go a lot of places with really bad roads so clearance isn't an issue for me. I have never had a problem getting up steep wet switchbacks. Easy to park the thing too since its really small. I'm really short too, so I get ya on not wanting to have to sit on a bunch of pillows to see over the dash the way you should.

Liberty has had many issues. I would buy something else. Hard to beat a toyota.

I searched on Craigslist Miami until I found a good deal on a Toyota Rav 4. Contacted a mobile car inspection company to completely check it out. Made arrangements to get it to one of the cargo boat's that brought it to St Croix. Everything worked out without issues.

I know Liberty has issues but he REALLY wants a Jeep.

Buy a jeep but not a liberty. EDIT. I feel now if a liberty is what you want then thats what you should get. We have 2009 grand cherokee. It has issues but it still keeps on going. There are still many on the road. Jeeps do have more rugged chassis but the flaws are the body. I say go for it.

I have a 95 jeep wrangler that has been through 5 teens and getting ready for the 6th teen. We have had to replace the computer and right now it needs some brakes, exhaust system, new top and some floorboard rust work. Great project car for my almost 15 year old son. I'm getting excited about working on it with him. Of course that didn't answer your question. :@)

The Toyota Rav line is made in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada so its under NAFTA.

But, NAFTA is not applicable in the USVI.

Speee1dy, I noticed you mentioned that local Jeep dealer on STT (I’m assuming that’s the one over by Tutu Mall), have you or anyone heard anything about their service dept? I’m shipping my 2017 Jeep Rubicon, which will be under warranty for a couple more years and just wondered?
