Hello lb,

Try the Landmark Society Museum Store. The last time I stopped by they had an assortment of books. They are located on Company Street in Christiansted. Open Monday through Saturday 10am to 5pm. 713-8102.

There is a book called Historic Buildings of St. Thomas & St. John by Gjessing & Maclean. Its an interesting read but only about St. Thomas & St. John. Figured I'd mention it. Another related book, again about St. Thomas, Three Quarters of the Town of Charlotte Amalie: A Study of Architectural Details and Forms That Have Endured from 1837, by Edith Dejongh Woods. Those two will likely be at the Museum Store or local bookstores.

Plantation and Town, Historic Architecture of the United States Virgin Islands by Pamela W. Gosner was published in 1971. I haven't tried all that hard to find it yet, but you might look for it also. I breifly looked at the UVI library and didn't find it. Incidently...

You can also try the University Library. Non-students can get a Community Member's Library Card I believe for around $30. Most Caribbean related books are in their Caribbean Collections, which at the St. Thomas campus is a special collection. Not sure if this is also the situation at the St. Croix campus. In any case the special collections' books can not be removed from the library and to be exact can not be removed from the room they are in except to make photo copies of pages and then returned to the special collections room. At the St. Thomas campus to gain access to the Caribbean Collections you must have a library card. Lots of interesting reading there.

A sidenote: If you aren't already aware of the Landmark Society Ruins Ramble Tours you might check those out http://www.stcroixlandmarks.com/index.cfm?menuitemid=108&menusubid=13.
