Long Distance Circuits US-VI

In making calls from Chicago to St Croix over the past several evenings I have received a recorded message stating that all circuits are busy, please try your call again latter. Sometimes the message mentions St Thomas. I eventually get through, but I have to dial the call several times.

Is anyone else having similar problems?

Is this a normal occurence during season?

Is there a shortage of capacity between US and the USVI?

Just wondering.

Britt

Hello Britt,

When you get that message its when circuits are busy like the message said. Sometimes its a glitch and when you call right back its ok. Sometimes during say Thanksgiving or Christmas when there are lots of friends and family calling back and forth the long distance lines will be busy. Haven't had any family or friends mention getting this message lately in terms of calling St. Thomas from away. It has happened before in my experience though.

Dave - no version service here.

Phones are particularly messed up at the moment, have been for over 3 weeks and the soonest resolution, to a problem Innovative has said they recognize on my line, will occur before or on Dec 29th.

Innovative has been swamped with calls, something serious must have happened to many lines. My internet connection for the first time in 3 months has come back as busy, and I've never seen that before.

Also as you noted, strange busy and other error codes are reported when dialing long distance and/or 800 numbers.

I hope this means this is kind of an unexpected BIG problem, that will soon be resolved.

Thanks.

Hopefully they will get the problem fixed sooner vs. latter. I didn't have any problems yesterday, but I could have been lucky.

Britt.

Interestingly, I have heard several people complaining about different service issues lately, like "too much voltage" on the line to noisy lines...And as I was just reading this, my modem disconnected. JUMBIES!!! I wonder how much the rain affected the lines....

Dumb question, I'm afraid, but.... Do mainland 1-800 numbers work from St. Thomas? (my internet service has a per-minute dial up plan for travellers.).

If you have AOL there is supposedly a local access number. Yes, toll-free US number are still toll-free here.

On the 800# question- not a silly question at all.
The answer is- SOME 800/888/877 #s will work from here, and some won't.

Thanks, Loyal Reader. I figured it cost more to provide the service, so there might be a problem.

I guess I'll have to (ugg) call customer service.
