Living on a boat
Does anyone down there live on boats. And if so are there a significant number of old trawlers for sale. Thanks Daniel
I know a guy who lived on a boat for 25 years. I would imagine you can find any kind of boat you want here. Try an Internet search.
Would you have the name of any live-aboard marinas? Thanks
Hi guys, sorry to take so long to answer. Took a "snow" day yesterday and watched the blessedly uneventful weather although there were some masts hitting the sea in Elephant Bay in mid afternoon. White caps in Elephant, Long and Crown Bay around 2 PM.
Daniel,
A lot of people live on boats here but not too many old trawlers for sale here (STT/STJ). I can recommend some yacht brokers who have a finger on the pulse of things and can steer you in the right direction depending on your $$$ range. If you are looking for an old "handy man's special" you might try lurking around Independent Boatyard (Bottom's Up) and asking around. Also, Patsy's at Compass Point Marina will attract that sort of information as well. Tickles at Crown Bay may be a decent source. There isn't really a publication that advertises that sort of thing.
Trish,
Compass Point, Pirates Cove (AKA La Vida Marina), Fish Hawk to name a few on the east end. Vessup Bay (Latitude 18) but marina living is expensive and hot! I prefer the life on a mooring which is not that hard to get permission for or on the hook where you can at least get some breezes. Crown Bay allows live aboards but it is cheaper to live on land. Email me if you have any specific questions.

Hello All,
Bottom's Up has quite a few for sale (5 or 6?). You can drive in there and see the ones for sale parked on land with stilts and a regular 'FOR SALE' sign. I am sure there is a proper term for that, but anyway we have been there twice for some dinner specials and noticed a lot of 'for sale' signs. Worth checking out if you are in the area.

I am interested in living aboard my boat down there and am looking for information, the mooring idea is something I may explore but I like some conviences and keep my boat in a slip here with water and electric., sat dish on dock, phone line. Of ourse I would expect higher prices there.
I have just started to consider the VI and am looking through the posts and did not want to lose this one in case I did not find any otherrs, Itook the marina address off another post but if you can be of further assistance I would appriciate it.
Thanks in advance, jack
Jack,
