Day 23.

The two best things on STX are the Sandy Point beach and the Rose's restaurant in Frederiksted. I've been to Rose's 4 times already. It's that good. Rose's restaurant exudes quality. Not the dry artificial quality like Ruth's Chris, but a relaxed setting with Caribbean food, with great attention to detail and friendly service. Meagan, the chef, along with Shane, put a lot of love in their cooking. Meagan studied her craft in New York. Dwayne is the bartender who invents his own wonderful cocktails (try "Cruzan Fusion" which has 9 ingredients in it). Rose is the owner and the manager. Rose's is run like a top tier continental restaurant, yet it feels genuinely Caribbean. The restaurant is in a historic building, and while there, I like to talk to the Caribbean spirits which seem to like this place as much as I do. When I am in Rose's, I feel like I had lived there hundreds of years ago, and finally came back. I think this is what people mean when they say, "It's my kind of place".

Attention to detail and love. That's what it takes. When I was 18 years old, I dated a girl of my age. She had a peculiar way of sneezing. It was short, low-key, and supremely feminine. Every time she sneezed, I got an instant erection. Her sneezing was her secret sauce, an important detail in her craft of cooking femininity.

Rose, Dwayne, Shane, and Meagan are a family. Everyone except Meagan came here from Trinidad some 18 years ago. Because they were not bahn ya, STX would never feel like home to them. In a small place like STX, the words envy, revenge, gossip, and bahn ya have a very special meaning. On the continent, it's a nuisance. On the island, it's the way of life.

I must have missed you last night at the Palms… Did you go? Enjoy the show? Dance with the Jumbies or fire dancers? Inquiring minds, and all that…

Do tell...

Day 24.

I know that I am odd. I know that people perceive me as an odd person. I am totally comfortable with my oddness. I consider it as my "edge", an advantage that I have. Oddity is like being bilingual. Being bilingual is akin to playing poker and seeing other players' hands without revealing your hand. In a restaurant, you can discuss your marital problems with your wife, or talk about the problems of the people near you, in a non-dominant language of that place. My oddity is my edge. It gives me the ability to observe and to study the humans as if I am an alien anthropologist. I can record my experiences, which will make an entry in the "Way of Humanity" article of the "Encyclopedia of Humanity", section "1967-present". I was born in 1967. That's when my recording starts. I take my job seriously. I love it. I've been chosen deliberately as someone who has the passion and the skills for the job at hand. To make my observations genuine, I live like a human, and I measure my emotions, my senses, and my thoughts, in a variety of different environments and circumstances. Sometimes I dive so deep into the way of humanity that I feel like a human being. It's like being an undercover cop infused into the criminal organization, and doing it so well, that you start wondering, "Am I a cop, or am I a criminal"?

Because of this oddity that I have, I didn't think that my experiences and the sensations on STX would resonate with the "normal people". That proved to be wrong. I was contacted via a private message by someone on this discussion board, asking for a meeting. I will identify this person as "Citizen X". I accepted. I didn't think much ahead of the meeting. I thought that our get-together would be awkward and tense. But it turned out to be one the most natural, free-flowing exchange that I've ever had with the human kind. The conversation was effortless, and as open as if we have known each other for the last 50 years. We spilled out guts to each other as if there was no tomorrow. There is a tomorrow. Tomorrow, we are meeting again.

In my role as a human being, I've accumulated a great deal of pain in me. The pain crystallizes. It becomes hard to penetrate. It forms a clot in your brain and in your throat. The clot of pain produces pus. The pus comes out as nihilism, negativity, irritability, the sense of being uncomfortable, and the drive to flush it it away. The pus is filled with the bubbles of regret, which are the experiences that you wish you never had. These bubbles surf their way to the top of the brain, and they make you miserable and painful. They contaminate the beauty and the purity of thought and the clarity of the awareness which would dominate your psyche otherwise. They poison the aromatic scent of life, the rare privilege that one can experience as a "chosen one", among the countless many people who have never been born.

Here is the bottom line. STX is not a 1-week vacation spot. STX was created as a conduit to flush your pain away. After the sunset, in the warm Caribbean water, I turn on my back, I let myself see the stars, and then something miraculous occurs. The pain liquefies. It changes its state from solid to liquid, it melts, and it sinks to the bottom of the Caribbean Sea. The Caribbean Sea is the healer. It would take your pain, as long as you are willing to part with it. The pain comes out through your ears, nose, throat, and eyes. It comes out as tears, ear wax, nose mucus, and liquefied throat lump.

After 24 days on STX, I feel 5 pounds lighter. 5 pounds is the weight of pain that I had. I let the Caribbean sea and the sand suck and absorb that pain from me. The Caribbean sea and the sand don't mind. They are very compassionate. They take my pain with no resistance, once I become one with them.

I didn't understand what was happening to me until Citizen X explained it to me. He had the same experience. For that, I am eternally thankful to Citizen X.

Damn, can I write! This is the most beautiful thing that I ever produced. I think I fell as a victim to the narcissism syndrome.

Good evening, Alana. There are 4 days left. I'm leaving this Saturday. After that, the island is all yours.

guess what, you don't have to read anything anywhere; it is all done by choice.

so, you apparently desire to read constant dribble.... I suggest any of the mainstream media outlets, surely you have TV, you're of that overly trusting generation that allows pre-conceived notions to continue.

or in other words...

if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

edit:

I actually have really enjoyed this thread, and I know many others that have as well.

FYI, she doesn't live on this amazing island, she lives on STT.... personally I despise STT, I've been there twice and have been extremely disappointed by the people there and the overly commercialized ideals.... so perhaps I can understand her slightly(?) jaded statements.

Day 24 (continued).

Peter doesn't bother me anymore. He still crows at exactly 2:20 am and 4 am every morning, but now I almost wait for it. When it comes, I smile. I have been transformed on the island. I've experienced a profound change from the purple to the turquoise. STX has flushed the purple out of my system, and replaced it with the turquoise. When I came here, I didn't know why I came. Now I know. It was to flush the purple out. I feel like my mission was accomplished. Citizen X tells me that there is a next phase: to build up the turquoise. He says that perhaps the best way to do it is to be a snowbird. 6 months on the continent, 6 months on STX. I am considering it. There is a point of equilibrium that I seek. The point of equilibrium is where it feels just right. The point of equilibrium is where you can see the left and the right, and that you know that you are exactly in the right spot in between.

Now Alana, Let's not be 'snarky' shall we?

It's been a great time listening to one's thoughts and ramblings. Hope you return, wanderer.

Dribble - "To move (a ball) by repeated light bounces or kicks, as in basketball or soccer." Of course, food can dribble down someone's chin. What is certainly meant here is "drivel" ... and does anyone recall Former Ohio Guy from years ago? Mr. Wanderer has FOG's knack of detached observation but with his own spin.
TRW always seemed like an out-of-control car with bad brakes roaring down-hill at full throttle. I would say W. has read too much Søren Kierkegaard and been unwise enough to take him seriously.

Day 25.

I've been invited to attend the congregation of the Interfaith Coalition of St Croix. I look forward to it.

One of the items in my "list of things to do" is to establish a new religion. The founder of Scientology is known for saying, "The quickest way to make one million dollars is to establish a new religion". I am not there for the money, though. Instead, my motivation is to formalize the code of conduct based on the principles which transcend the cultural norms. The cultural norms are ever transient, highly dependent on the time and space reference. What was widely accepted and moral in country C1 at point of time T1 can be considered totally evil in country C2 at point of time T2. What if there is a set of principles which exist independently, and every single civilization (including the alien civilizations) interprets these principles without ambiguity, regardless of where and when the interpretation is made? The aim of my new religion is to define these principles. This new religion is called W.

The foundation of W is the probabilistic nature of the Universe. It addresses the question, "Why does anything exist at all?". What follows below is the answer to this question.

What does it mean to go forward in time? It simply means, to experience the Universe in a state which is different from the current state. The state is determined by configuration of all the material, anti-material, and non-material things. When you make a single move, or even have a single thought, the entire Universe changes, because you changed its configuration. You created a future. Because the Universe is so large, it can take a virtually infinite number of states. It is enough to change the position or the velocity of a single atom to put the Universe in the new state.

What does it mean to go back in time? It means, to experience the Universe in exactly the same state as you've already experienced it. To go back in time, you'd have to rearrange the position of every single atom in such a manner that duplicates the previous state of the entire Universe. It's possible, but highly improbable.

This is exactly what defines the seemingly unidirectional flow of time: moving forward is highly likely, moving back is highly unlikely. Thus, the entire mysterious concept of change and time reduces to a very simple explanation: it's probabilistic. The time appears to go forward simply because it's much more probable that out of the infinitely many configurations available, the Universe chooses the one that never happened before. There is only one state that corresponds to a given state in the past, and there are infinitely many states that are different. In all likelihood, a new state would be chosen, and thus the time would appear to move forward.

None if this is new. However, I had to make this introduction to make the leap to the argument that has never been made before. How many ways are there for the Universe to not exist? There is only one. There is no variety of nothingness. There is only one nothingness. Empty set. Single state. Now, how many ways are there for the Universe to exist? Infinitely many. If a state is chosen at random, what would it be likely to be? Existence. And this is pretty much it. The question of "why does anything exist at all?", which tortured the human minds forever, has a very simple answer: the Universe exists simply because the existence is much more probable than the non-existence.

My brother in law started a new religion and church about 20 years ago. It didn't really take off. The name of the church was, "Church of let the Good Times Roll" . His slogan was send us your money and we will let the good times roll.

I think "Wanderer" is just "wandering". Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I have also found his/her posts interesting and entertaining reading.

Originally he was writing about buying a condo on St. Croix, but perhaps he's changed his mind - especially since he asked about moving to St. Lucia instead?

I've found some of his writing entertaining and have skimmed over the rest. I premised that he was actually trolling since some of his posts seem to be written as a backhanded insult. However since then I've decided it's just his writing style, and many people are enjoying it, so, cool. It is interesting to read someone's perspective who has taken the time to detail so much.

It's quite simple, really. I came here as a PMVer. As a PMVer, I looked at the local real estate to see what my money can buy here. I was not set on actually purchasing anything just yet, but simply exploring. Because I can do my job from anywhere in the world, STX is just one option. Next time, I might as well do a PMV to St Lucia.
