Living in the BVI
Any info about living in bvi would really help me, i was offered a position at peebles hospital and i plan to move from the states in sept.
Check the BVI section of www.traveltalkonline.com. There are several BVIers there.
Wow. I am useless to help you but I am a hospital person and am completely envious! I talked at length last year with the husband of an administrator at the STT hospital and the challenges are there but boy, I wish! This website focuses on the USVI so Search around to the various threads but I'll bet you'll have more luck on other websites that focus on the BVIS. Good luck to you- its wicked laid back for sure and obtaining supplies and finding affordable rents will be a huge challenge but I wish I were you!!
Hi Karrieb:
I just sent you a PM. Please read it and respond as soon as you have a chance.
Thanks!
Hi aminat.
I too at one time considered living in the BVI. You don't mention your citizenship but as a U.S citizen, a big drawback for me was the tax situation. The BVI does not have a tax agreement with the U.S. so on any money you earn as a BVI resident, whether the funds are earned on or off the island, you have to pay U.S. Federal taxes as well as steep non-belonger BVI taxes. In many instances, when you're an American ex-pat and pay taxes to your host country you can deduct those taxes from your U.S Federal taxes but the BVI does not participate in this arrangement.
Check out www.caribbean-on-line.com/forums . You'll find, British Virgin Islands-New forum, old forum. Hope this helps.
