Litter CLEAN-up on STX for Triathlon
Please help to make St. Croix beautiful for the triathlon!
St. Croix Environmental Association (SEA), the Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA), and the St. Croix Foundation have partnered together to organize the island’s first annual Crucian Litter Elimination Action Now (CLEAN) event to be held on April 24th and April 25th, which is the weekend prior to the triathlon.
My wife and I have adopted a section for litter pick-up. Each section is 1 to 2 miles long.
As of earlier today, the following sections still need to be adopted: 3, 5, 7, 10, 11, 13, 14, 17, 18, 22, 23 and 24.
If you decide to adopt a section, there is a coordinator's meeting on Monday, 4/19 - 6:00 p.m. at the SEA office in Gallow's Bay.

I kind of wonder why we don't do this every day for 'us'......duh
The wife and I decided to clean up a part the road near our house on Saturday, we ended up pulling 55 tires out of the bush amongst other items such as microwaves, a printer, vcrs, lawn chairs, bikes, a radiator, rims, etc. We called VI Waste Management left a message and filled out a report on their website. Today we got a call back and are meeting with a rep this coming Saturday to show them the piles we gathered as well as the other larger appliances (and the other 4 dozen or so tires we didn't get to) that we couldn't move, they said they will asses the amount of debris and come back with dumpsters to pick it all up. I'll keep everyone posted in how efficient it is to get all the mess cleared out and who to call.
does anyone have an update on the poor (but turns out lucky) puppy found during the clean up? saw a pic of the puppy. that makes me sick. thrown out with the trash i guess. chained and left to die. to bad they could not take finger prints off the puppy and find who did that. makes my blood boil....!!!!:X

Way to go AllMashUp. I wish more people cared like you and your wife obviously do.
Wouldn't it be great if a FOUNDATION stepped forward, or some super-wealthy individuals, to create an ongoing CASH FOR TRASH program in cooperation with VMA?
Bottles and Cans and Plastic would get scooped up by those looking for cash, and paid by the pound.
The same can be done with old tires.
Anybody heard if they were able to restore the Abandoned Vehicles Program? Almost a year ago Comm. Dotson said they were working on that.

I'm interested in knowing what happened to this poor baby! Anyone know anything? I may be interested in giving him/her a home if he hasn't found one already!!
Update
Met with one of the directors of VIWMA on his lunch break about 20mins ago, pointed out some of the big piles of tires and appliance along my road. He stated he would have a backhoe and truck come bye tomorrow and clear everything out.
So again use the VIWMA website to report problem areas on the islands...so far they have been extremely responsive, my wife and I have had two phone conversations and now one face to face in 10 days since our initial report. I'll keep you posted on how long it takes to completely clean up the road
