Does anyone know what's up with Lindquist beach?? It's looks like a guard sits out front with no trespassing to beach. I heard there is a cage deep in the water with a shark in it. Who knows what's going on there?...

There was a post about this topic awhile ago that seemed to address the issue of why the guard is posted. I highly doubt the "cage deep in the water with a shark in it"!! Lots of other mighty fine beaches on STT to visit without worrying about missing this one for the time being...........until property ownership, etc.etc. is finalized.

I thought all beaches were open to public, although public access from the road may be deined you could work your way to or swim to the beach.

Hello,

Someone had asked a similar question on our travel message board a couple weeks ago, here is what I wrote:

I am not all that familiar with the Open Shoreline Act. It does protect shorelines in terms of guaranteeing that they be open to the public. Where private land owners around shorelines find their legal argument is that the law doesn't say that access to the shoreline has to be allowed through the surrounding private property - or at least that is my understanding. I believe it is access by sea that is protected but only up to the medium or high tide mark or maybe it’s the tree line - not sure. In any case this topic and the interpretation of the law has been the subject of several legal battles. The most discussed right now is Lindquist Beach on St. Thomas however there are others.

The Lindquist property owner has had a guard posted there for several months now, if not a bit longer.

Anyone have more insight into the Open Shoreline Act or any new news on Lindquist?

Hello all,

Trying to find some good news to talk about. I love that Lindvqist is now open. It really is worth seeing. There is nothing like the sand there and I found beautiful purple, pink, and opal colored shells there. They would make a pretty necklace, but I couldn't in good conscience keep them. Anyway, here is the link:

If anyone does know the answer to the beach access question or Open Shoreline Act?

Teresa:

Thanks for the post.

Lindquist (sp) is one of our favorite beaches on STT and we were disappointed when the previous owners denied access. We'll be on-island soon......Lindquist is our first stop.

It's LindqVist. Hopefully Housing will quickly get some dumpsters out there as I hear that after the weekend there's already plenty of trash laying around although a High School group has "adopted" the beach and plan to maintain it, God bless them!

STT Res:

Is that the "British" spelling?

No it's the proper spelling! Not sure from where the Lindqvist family originally hailed but it sounds more Swedish than Danish. Unless anybody can come up with the answer (someone like Ronnie?) I'll call Doris Lindqvist and ask her!
