legal profession in st. croix???
Hello everyone, its been a pleasure reading this message board for helpful information on moving/living in the islands. Alot of my concerns about moving have been answered in past messages. I just learned this week that i will be moving to st. croix in early august with my girlfriend. Although she has a job lined up, I'm still searching. Does anyone out there know any information about the legal market in st. croix. I'm a new attorney and I'm looking for firms/attorney's that have a good reputation in st. croix? Any info or help would be appreciated. Thanks...Carl
Carl: am an attorney myself, and have a second home on the East End of St. Croix. Hamm & Berry is an AV rated firm on the island. Not sure about employment opportunities. You'll have to take the Feb. bar, as I do not believe there is reciprocity between states.
Carl,
For firms, you might search the yellow pages.... go to http://www.viphonebook.com and search for attorneys, law offices.... and then you can see which ones are on St. Croix and call, see about the hiring procedures, openings, ect... there are quite a few law offices on St. Croix.
Jennifer - might you suggest where Carl would get more information on the Bar and practicing law in the USVI?

Good afternoon, Jennifer and "Islander", thank you very much for your responses. I'm aware of the Fed. bar and no recripcity between states, but I was hoping to find attorney's/firms that would take me on as a law clerk until I pass the USVI bar.
Thanks for the info on Hamm and Berry. Any other suggestions on St. Croix? When I arrive I'm probably just going to grab the phonebook and then hit the pavement to see what is available.
Carl
If you call the Courthouse in St. Croix (it is Federal) they will hook you up with the individual who handles the bar review and application for the february bar.
