I got mine through CheapTickets.com last time, but Travelocity and Expedia both run last-minute offers.

Hotwire.com also has some good deals if you want round trip (not one-way).

we used travelzoo and got round trip from Seattle to STX for 549 including taxes and fees and stuff. That price included the American Airlines Miami to STX direct flight without having to go through Puerto Rico. That flight alone is usually 700. Our tickets were a last minute thing too.

Thanks
We are coming from Seattle. How short of notice is best... one day one week... I'm just trying to figure it out
thanks again

We did it about 10 days ahead but if you use travelzoo check everyday for a couple of days as the prices will vary each day. When you see a price you like book it.
We flew out of Seattle at 11:30 at night, landed in Dallas early morning had an hour to change planes to Miami and then when we landed in Miami we had two hours before our flight to STX. It made the flight a piece of cake. We slept through the night and were in STX by 3:30 the next afternoon without worrying about missing flights, long layovers or any of that other stuff.

I wouldn't wait too long -- http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/16/business/16fares.html The article is about holiday travel in particular, but last-minute deals are fewer and further between these days than they used to be, now that airlines have had time to adjust the number of flights to the demand -- they don't have to scramble to fill seats like they used to. I just took six flights stateside, and every single one was either overbooked or full.

I always go to Travelocity, try the flexible dates search. I've booked my tickets as late as the night before traveling.

I use airfarewatchdog.com - I've seen some great deals, like 200 RT from Boston to STT.

It's ridiculous that it's cheaper to go from Boston to STT roundtrip than for me to go from STX to PR roundtrip...

GoodtoGo,
Do you know about the seaplane $49.50 each way STX-San Juan? It's not everyday, not all flights, etc. You just have to "shop" their website and maybe be a little flexible. As far as I know they are still offering it. I haven't looked in a few weeks.

Go to AA.Com and click the link in the reservations box for "My Dates are Flexible". It will bring you to a flexible page that will allow you to choose a 30 day period that you would like to fly within, and how many nights.

When you click continue, they will give you all the lowest fares they have within those dates. I just saw one for $409, but be aware of any overnight layovers.

I used this method for every trip I took to STX, and never found any other site that came close.

I use Sidestep which is like Kayak. It searches Orbitz, Cheaptickets, Travelocity.....all of them and the airlines. When you see the cheapest flight it will automatically direct you to the site that the cheap flight came from.

I used AA.com and paid #350 OW from Roswell, NM to STX. Booked more than 30 days in advance, though.
