Hi all new to the board.......not new to STX.
My husband & I do NOT drink or smoke........how do you meet others besides the bar? (We're 4o-ish & 50)
We have met a few nice folks here until they learn your portfolio lacks the required zeros........then all you get is a polite wave :-X
Also been off island for a year & now back need to look for work.........Have sales/management background, any suggestions??
Then by Nov 1st our house sitting gig will be over & need to find another place & from past experience it's like impossible to find a place with a dog!!!! Any suggestions.......

I have pet friendly rentals on STX, short-term or long-term. http://www.virginislandsrentals.com. If you want to look for another house sitting gig, we offer a good temporary option until the right place comes along. If you check out the pictures and info on the website, and want to come by and take a look, just give us a call. I'm off island, but my husband is there and will be glad to show you around. Contact info on the site, but you can always PM me here.

Sorry, I can't help with any job leads. Have you tried careers.vi? Also, use the search option here and search for careers or jobs or anything like that, thirty days out, and you will find a thread giving other online sites and other ideas. Good luck.

It's not frowned upon to drink soft drinks or iced tea at the beach bars and you still meet people and hang out. Not everyone is there with the intent of getting trashed. For many, it's just a social outlet. Otherwise, volunteer at the humane society or attend the events at Country Day and Good Hope such as plays and art exhibits, etc. and lots of people will be there to meet and it's not about getting drunk. Community Theater is another place to meet people.

Some rentals allow a pet, but they do usually cost a little more. Start looking early since you are aware of this. The best places and lowest prices will disappear in October as winter workers arrive, so getting something locked in by late September is a good idea.

Well you may not go to bars but you have to eat and most bars are in the restaurants. Some people go out at night to watch the games, play trivia or listen to live bands. Daytime its always easy to met people going to buck island, hanging out at popular local beaches like cane bay and going to island events like agricultural festival, chilli cookoff, taste st croix or st paticks parade, etc.. Its not hard to met people here at all, ESPECIALLY when you are new. People love giving advice, it can be overwhelming.

Start networking and meeting people as this is always the best way to get jobs. Tell new people that you meet that your looking and your field and if they know anyone.

It is getting a little better to find places that will take dogs. It sounds like you will have plenty of time to look, if you don't have to be out until Nov. Take your time and look for a good deal.

Go to Cane Bay on weekends. the people are friendly there.

Go to trivia on Mondays at Tracey's
Go to trivia on Tuesdays at Chicken Charlie's
go to trivia on Wednesdays at Parrots Cove.
Ask someone if you can join their team for the night. We have met many wonderful people this way.
