Ive been blowing glass for two years now. self tought mostly, but I have worked with artists Harold Eberhart, and Bhandu Dunham. What I am looking for is to find either work in a pre-existing job or to open my own glass shop where people could watch me work through a big glass window. I do mainly solid glass sculptures sea creatures are probably my best selling item. I also make perfume bottles, pendants, small vases, flowers, spiders and most things you could think of. I think this type of a shop might work extremly well at a resort or hotel to entertain there guests with a fine art that is not very prevelent for somthing people like so much. If anyone has ideas or are intrested in helping me send an email or just reply here

thanx

Hello,

St. Thomas: I think its a great idea; if well planned out with good location and not too outrages of prices your business venture would do well. I think your best bet would be to plan an pre-move scouting visit basically. Visit other artist and art galleries - network with them, see if they are willing to talk about how they did it, see if any of them would want to work with you. Some resorts, well Ritz is the only one I can think of right now, has a "resident artist" teaches painting there and is there at set times on certain days of the week... so maybe you could look into this. There might be artist on St. Thomas that work with glass I just can't think of any right now.

On St. John I think there are more varied art work forms in a smaller area - Cruz Bay (painting, pottery, clothing, jewerly..) You can contact the St. John artsist association and see if they could help you out http://www.stjohnarts.org/

this artist works with glass for making glass beads or vases... http://www.mosaicmadness.com/

There is a place in St. John called St. John Glassworks, the owner does glass blowing vases, animals... I think the site is http://www.islandblown.com/

On St. John at Maho Bay there is a glass blowing person there and they have lessons...

Check out those sites, contact the owners, particularly the islandblown person as that seems the closest to what you want to do.

Good Luck.
