King Gov's Extravagance
thank you
Ot,
That's a much better link, thanks again
Not sure if this is same as OT's list. Don't know how current it is, either.
Hope My Brother's Workshop is on one of the lists. If not, https://www.facebook.com/MyBrothersWorkshop?directed_target_id=0
If you look in the 2015 VI phone book on page 42, you'll see a list of community service organizations, of which are many charities.
Lucky Paws Foundation and the STT Humane Society always need a helping hand whether it be for funds or volunteers, fostering and adopting our islands throwaway animals.
Well, the Governor has backed out of the $12,500/month villa:
A $12,500 Luxury Villa in no way fits the description of an "apartment" so am confused by that word being used in the article.
Pleased that this particular sore point will be taken off the table.
One cannot cry about our "dire" financial situation and ignore the exceedingly significant amount being spent on luxury digs for our governor by our governor.
He's doing the right thing and will give credit where credit is due while waiting to see "what's next?"

Blah blah blah, backpedal backpedal backpedal. When the King was Prince the internet here was in its infancy. Too bad that when he ran for office he didn't know that the largesse of the past wouldn't go unnoticed ...
As I said in my other post, PRETTY DAMNED SNEAKY!
So much for giving him credit and we sure didn't have to wait long to for the "what next" shoe to drop. Good grief!
WICO is paying $14,500 plus all services and utilities in lieu of taxes?
We were pissed off when we thought the amount was $12,500 for the rental amount.
How can that be possibly even legal?
We're still getting screwed because that money was not going to benefit anyone except a single person who obviously has delusions of grander and was willing to make us pay for a lavish lifestyle.
And the good news is that the home is being handed back to the owner and the Governor will simply have to "make do" by having only one residence in his jurisdiction. The argument that any governor needs residences on both the big islands is ridiculous when they're only 40 miles distant from each other. Do stateside governors maintain homes in different counties under their jurisdiction which are considerably further apart? Of course not. You can fool some of the people some of the time but not all the people all the time. Seems a hard truism for Mr Mapp to digest.
But Mapps home is on St Croix. It's not like he can just drive to his office.

He can commute by air as easily as do many others ...
PS: The Hawaiian islands are way more numerous and way further apart than those in the USVI but the Governor of Hawaii has one official residence only.
Per the revised Organic Act the official residence of the Governor is Government House in St Thomas. There are no living quarters there. We need to provide housing on STT for the Governor. Was his rental extravagant? Absolutely. Something needs to be done to address housing.
And it's currently being addressed - as it should have been addressed years ago. I don't believe there's any dispute about that but we need it to be accomplished in moderation as our economic situation dictates and devoid of any unnecessary fine trappings.
So many of you miss the point. He is already in violation of federal law by not living in Govt House. Living on STX is no "greater violation," as he already is a federal lawbreaker. If he is going to tap dance on the Organic Act, he might as well save our money while doing so!
Also, if Paul Murphy, a former federal prosecutor in STT can see these flagrant violations, where is our current U.S. Attorney? On the beach?

As you have also missed a point. Although the Governor of the Virgin Islands is indeed mandated to maintain his official residence in the Government House on Saint Thomas during his incumbency, this does not prevent him from maintaining and living in his private residency - but not at the taxpayer's expense. In any event, it has been several decades since Government House was a residence as the residential quarters were long ago turned into offices. To claim that either the present Governor and past Governors are violating federal law by not living in Government House is a faulty premise.
“Randy Knight, the governor's chief of staff, is chairman of the WICO board of directors and signed the lease resolution for the board.
That, Sanes said, leads to critical questions: "Did the chief of staff have the authority? Is it a conflict of interest?[/i]"
A question which absolutely begs to be answered …
You betcha!
Hey, at least the question was asked!
That actually surprises me that Sanes went there.
