Kindness is Contageous
That is the slogan, and has been for the last 5 years... of the St. Croix Animal Welfare Center's Humane Education Program. Kindness truly is contageous and I always like to add the little tag line ... 'infect someone today'.
The Humane Education Program teaches kindness and compassion to the children of St. Croix through its school visitation programs and through many other educational efforts. They visit nearly every public classroom on island (and many private schools too) , every grade.... every year .....teaching not only about responsible pet ownership and pet overpopulation concerns... but about core character values like honesty, integrity, compassion, kindness, respect and love for one another. It is a worthwhile program and Therese and her team do an awesome job. Its a big job and they are met with many challenges...but the program is very successful in getting out its message.
The Humane Education Program has recently been moved to a new office location at the shelter ... a great separate building ... but the building needs some finishing. Please see my post in the classifieds for some materials that are needed to complete the finishing out of this space... which will be shared by the Pets from Paradise program.... ( another awesome program at the shelter which works with stateside no-kill shelters and local/visiting travelers to relocate some of our critters to shelters stateside that have waiting lists for our little crucian mutts! ) Two great programs ... one new space!
If you can help... or would like to volunteer to help with either the programs (visiting the schools or saving a pet through Pets from Paradise) or can help with our renovation project... or just want to make a donation to the cause. Please... PM me for more information. We are going to be tackling this renovation over the next two weeks and can use all the help we can get. I'll be coordinating the efforts so please don't hesitate to contact me.
Kindness is contageous. Infect someone today!
limetime i didnt know if t he pets from paradise project still was in operation.
What states do you send them too? i travel to vermont alot.....we have set up 4 puppies to go there.
I will let you know next time i travel if vermont is a state still in pets from paradise network.
Thanks Dixiechick. The Pets from Paradise program is absolutely still in affect and I will check on Vermont and get back to you. Do you travel through Boston?
Also... one thing you can do in Vermont, is visit one or more of the local shelters near where you are going and ask them about their needs. It the shelter doesn't have a waiting list for small breed or puppies, its likely they will not be a suitable partner... but many stateside shelters, especially in cities... have a waiting list for small breed rescues. This works out great. You can actually meet the people there that we would work with and open the door for future lives saved. The Pets from Paradise coordinator at the shelter is passionate about the cause and if you would like to meet her to discuss how you could do this... she'd be happy to meet with you I'm sure.
I've also taken several pets north and it is so rewarding. Sometimes they are adopted before they ever reach the shelter... just through the picture exchange!
Thanks for caring.
Peace and PAWS... (Pets are worth saving!)
Read this this morning. Was thinking about doing it but our dog just killed our cat yesterday (yeah, i know, awful!...she's lived with the cat for 3 years since she was a pup and yesterday snapped) and i don't want to risk anything.
"The shelter needs someone to keep a little one year old puppy for 2 weeks...she has been adopted to a home in Boston but can't leave for 2 weeks...she's a doll. Please someone help out...call me at 719-8333" - this is from Mrs. Babb.
