Hello,
I have been offered a job on St. Thomas and would be required to travel several times a year. Are there any good kennels on the island that would take care of my two large dogs?
Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt:
I have sheltered one of my dogs at Imperial Canine & Critters and he seemed well taken care of, and, in fact, a little spoiled.
Dr. Williamson also does boarding.

Hi Onika,
Do you remember how much it cost to board your dog?
Thanks
Matt

IMHO I would recommend Imperial waaaay over Dr. Willimason. My dog came back from a 3 days stay w/ Williamson with 22 ticks on him! And he was just treated by Williamson for tick fever (ehrlichiosis - sp?) that cost us $3,000 and almost killed him! Go to Dr. Tripp Stewart at Imperial if you love your dogs.

Matt F, I can't recall exactly, but Imperial was more expensive than Doc Williamson. The cost increases based on the size of your dog and on weekends. The staff at Imperial will know your dogs names and will ask about them upon return visits.

When we first moved here we lived closer to Doc Williamson and he succesfully treated my dog and cats several times. I would trust him to treat my animals. However, I cannot attest to the boarding facilities or the level of care provided as I never utilized this service.

Imperial is a younger institution with younger staff and access to newer technology and methods of practice. Doc Williamson is a one-man show who has been practicing for 40 years and can spot a case of tick fever a mile away.

You make the call.

Well put, Onika. Doc W. is very well practiced with tick fever. Something about being the first Dr. to identify it a bliilion years ago here, or something like that. He's great with animals, and truly cares about them. But his people skills sure have slid over the years! I now have a biased opinion of is skills in caring for animals due to the tick thing with my dog. I just called Imperial, and was told $20/day ($10 more on Holidays) for dogs up to 30 lbs. They said that they can't board animals above 30# since they don't have the facilities for it. Hmm...gues that kind of leave Doc W. huh? Maybe try the Yellow Pages? www.viphonebook.com
