I am a Justice of the Peace in the state where we live. In the event that we move to the islands (in approx 4 years) I would like to maintain my standing as a Justice of the Peace but in the Islands. I have checked the web to no avail to learn of the dept. that covers that and what the regulations are as well. Please advise if anyone has that information.

OK - if you don't have Justices of the Peace who does the weddings that aren't held in a church and without the benefit of clergy?

you get licensed through the department of licensing to perform weddings. I was married on the beach at Carambola on STX by the owner of the Big Beard's Buck Island Tours company.

Rick,

You might try calling the Clerk at the Territorial Court on STT, 340- 774-6680. I'm familiar with Justices of the Peace but as a 22 year resident here have never known that there are any here. The Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs can be reached on STT at 340-774-3130.

I do know that marriage licenses are obtained through the Territorial Court and that after the marriage ceremony is performed, the papers have to be processed back through the Territorial Court in order for the marriage to be legally recognized.

Hope this helps.
