HI,
Just getting situated on my new tropical home in St. Croix. Been here two weeks, now fairly settled in. Would like to meet to locals for laughs, and to get to know each other. Having moved from a large southern city , I came here looking to get away from all the hassle and a horrible relationship, just looking to find some quiet time and re-focus and try to enjoy life. I would love to meet some locals who possibly share the same interests.Nothing serious, just freinds for now
Love my new island home.
Jill

Hi, I am sorry if I came on too strong. It's just that I really don't know a soul here and I took over my ex's house for the year. They say you can go island crazy, I'm trying to stop that before it starts. Just if anyone can recommend some night spots , I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Jill,

Sorry, I don't know the area yet. I will be moving to STT in September, but I have been following this board for 2 years now. In watching the board, it has been my experience that members seem to make most of their posts earlier than your original post. Give it some time, these people have lots of information! Your post did not sound to strong to me, and please try not to go crazy waiting for responses! Good luck!

Where on island do you live? Are you working, where?

We live in the north shore. Cane Bay beach and Full Moon Bar are good places to meet people out here. Strike up a conversation at the bar or sit near a bunch of locals (old chairs, no sunburn) at the beach. If you're working, try reaching out to others in your situation at work.

Too bad you didn't come out to Cramers last Saturday. We had a pot luck where you could have met lots of folks.

IMO you did come on a little strong. Relax and take it slow. You'll get the feel of it soon.

I recommend coming out to the Domino Club* in the rain forest tonight (Sunday) to see Kurt Schindler play from 6 to 9. IMO, he's the best musician on STX. He has a great following, and we always dance and have lots of fun. Eat beforehand, as they don't usually serve food there. If you go, look for me. I'll be the one wearing ear plugs!

Good morning! It has been a week now and unfortunately for me not much better. I'm not ready to ride off into the sunset, but at times I am fearful of certain areas and my personal safety. The islanders are older than I had anticipated. And there just aren't many folks around period. I feel as though I stepped into a time warp, everything is so not 21st century. I need more time to adjust.

You have been here for 2 weeks! If you are 41, most continentals are around your age or younger. Where are you hanging out? Where do you live?

And more importantly, what exactly did you expect? If you really want advice, we need more details.

But, honestly, if, after 2 weeks, you're not sure St. Croix is for you, it probably isn't.

Dear Jill: These are some red flags in your messages:

"I came here looking to get away from all the hassle and a horrible relationship"
If you are unhappy it doesn't matter where you are.

"They say you can go island crazy, I'm trying to stop that before it starts"
If you are already thinking of this...

"I feel as though I stepped into a time warp, everything is so not 21st century."
As Linda J said, I am not sure of your expectations. The USVI is much more Caribbean than US. But I have to say, you just got me singing "Let's do the time warp!" from Rocky Horror... 😉

Well I am happy I provided you with a laugh or two!!!
Doesn't that seem a trifle ignorant?

you may just have another troll here. One message said she'd been here two weeks now and another two days later says she's now been here a week. That math doesn't work for me. The failure to respond to the legitimate questions others have asked to get enough information to be able to effectively help her or offer reasonable suggestions doesn't make it look like she is serious about wanting help or to meet anyone.

Alexandra,

Re Troll: I think so too.

East Ender,

Your free association with songs is quite amusing. The only trouble is that this is the second or third time you have been responsible for some silly, old song running through my head all day long 😉
