just bought one way tickets
hey all me and my girlfriend will be moving down in aug bought the tickets last week just wondering how much money we should bring
$3,000 to $5,000 depending in if you have a job or not.
Quick example -- rent. If you find a $750 a month apartment to rent, the landlord may very well want first and last month's rent and $750 security deposit. That's $2250 right off the bat.
Costs will add up very quickly in paradise..
Welcome Josh - Which island are you moving to?

Josh,
What type of work are you looking for?
Hello Josh,
August-September are the slowest months of off season... if you are aiming for finding work in tourist driven markets like restaurants, tours, bartending you might have trouble. While locals, college kids back for the summer and on island hotel guest are around in August its not the same as the influx of visitors in Dec-May. So do keep this in mind.
I recall you saying you would look for work at the airport... you might also try the Seaplane.

ive been a ramp agent at portland international airport and a cna and some other jobs
I assume you already took the decision to move to the islands, rights? So don't take this advice as a selling point to base a life changing decision. If you had familly or friends on the islands, you would still need the $3000 just to get by until you get a job and find your own place, but at least you're under a roof. If you want to make the journey alone, then consider at least $7,000 to $10,000. Bills rack up pretty fast on the VI, really fast depending on your living style.
My advice is:
No family, friends, or more than $5,000...Don't move!
