Jump Up on Friday STX
This will be my first Jump Up. I understand that they close down some of the streets. I will be coming into town from 5 corners (Rt 75) and would like to know if anyone has a suggestion on the best place for parking. How do they re-route traffic through downtown for those going to the east end? Thanks.
if you get to town early enough you can park in the government parking lot. usually this is the best jump up of the year. we will see the economy being what it is. you also might be able to park at the fort?? not sure. alot of parking on the side roads. whatever you do do not block any roads. believe me alot of people do
I can't wait, your lucky the first one of the year will be your first jump up. Its usually the best or maybe the Christmas one Don't try eating at a restaurant it'll be mad packed and your food will take beyond forever. There are always great food & drink carts set up by private parties and restaurants.
Part of King St, Company St and Queen Cross St will be blocked off. They tow anyone parked in the blocked up area. Govt lot is a good place if you get there early enough (at least an hour ahead). Then theres just street parking where you can find it. Be careful not to park in any yellow areas, they do tow for jump ups.
They're be like a little mini parade with jumbee dancers, local dancers etc and bands are usually set up on every corner or so.
See ya'll there!!!!
What time does it start/end?
The roadblocks go up @ 5pm. The continentals and snowbirds get there @ 5:30 and leave early, the locals come @ 8-9 until.
The Moko Jumbies dancing.............the crowds laughing...........food...............music...........sales..............friends = GOOD TIMES!
This Jump Up is the most fun...............2nd by the Valentine one.
My 1st year NOT working it - YEAH!!!
Hey, isn't this JU the same day as our 1st cruise ship................wahooooooooooooo!
Anyone know what time the cruise ship is making port? Anything interesting happening in F'sted when they arrive/depart?
Another good place to park is the Seaborne seaplane parking lot, if you get there early enough.
Seaboarne parkling lot is a good one, forgot about that one. Then you can just walk on the boardwalk over.
It ends around 10ish, or at least they start breaking up the road block about then.
I could only imagine the horror of being towed here. I remember it taking a while in the states....I bet your paint would fade before you got it back.
Hey everyone!
Bring a couple extra bucks to Jump-Up tonight and buy some great used books from the Friends of St. Croix Libraries.
We'll be on the sidewalk outside the library and all the money raised goest o supporting library activities.
Come find some must-read bargains!
It was a wonderful crowded jump up but I was truly shocked. Worse then I've seen in a long time. There were hardly any trash cans out. As a result there was trash everywhere. It was very gross by the end of the night.
Actually I thought there were more trash cans than usual. They did seem to be full by 8PM.

We left right after the Mocko Jumbies came through. Everything was still pretty neat and clean. I had been looking forward to Bacchus' "street food", particularly the veggie stir fry. It's usually so good, but I was very disappointed! We have family on island for the holidays, first time on STX. They got a real kick out of jump-up. My sister-in-law contributed nicely to the local economy.
I'm afraid Bacchus is not what it used to be; too bad.
