Jobs
What are some of the highest an best jobs to have on this island thinking bout moving there want to come with the right qualifications i love teaching though getting my masters in education
you can have my job. things are so slow right now. i just sit all day and try to look busy.
i think there are jobs out there. its who you know and word of mouth finding a good job here.

Sooooooooo True!
Well it seems the" highest an best" would be the Govt. jobs like Commissioners and Heads of Departments - The Senators in the Legislature have a good deal too and the past CEO of the STT Hospital seemed to have a fairly good compensation.
From what I have gathered over the past 11 years, teaching is no where near a high paying or 'best' job to have here....I knew a lady that was a Guidance Counselor at the high school she worked in in Texas...she decided to move here, got a job as a teacher at Cancryn Jr. High...and quit within 3 hours of starting...maybe some teachers here can give you a better perspective?
lol wow 3 hrs wats happening in the schools to make u quit so fast
Read it again...it wasn't me, it was a lady I knew....I wasn't there, so I can't tell you what I don't know....but, it seems as if her experience here vs. in Texas was quite wide and varied, wouldn't you say?
i got wat u were saying just a form of expression
Yup, the hospital CEO seems like a very well compensated gig which is why (was it Miller?) the last one needed to steal from the hospital so patents could die from lack of hospital supplies..
1.2 mil/yr. wasn`t enough,so he stole a couple mill more! love is wife's phone bling,Impressive!
The Senators do have it good as well!
Iv`e been thinking to run on the platform of i`m in it for the 85K,the SUV,great jobs for my friends& the free gas!
You also get to have your old job/income at the same time as you don`t NEED to show up at all!
my possible motto:"I wont help you. but I wont screw you either, me won thief you"
Ah, my smiling face,on a poster with $85,000 in one hand, a SUV under the other with the harbor in the background!
I could settle for that, wouldn`t even take the forced kickbacks!
And,the pension!
Like the current senate,I would probably do more retired then working drawing from the GERS!
Some, even (literally) get away with murder & stealing from hardware stores!
The taxi thing isn`t bad either, except that you have to pay $80,000 for a medallion someone got for $35.
On the upside, if you run it as most locals, you operate nearly tax free!(you could end up breaking rocks at the rock pile)
Me,I`d claim the $80K as a business expense(& declare whom I gave it to).
Even if you do the right thing, & pay proper taxes, it could be quite lucrative if you have nothing else to offer a employer,or are limited to what you could do as self employed..
Most taxi operators here are ignorant, cant read & write (but they CAN count!).
Being a teacher is much more noble, the right person can influence the future of one or more person(s).
I`m sorry to say, your income will suffer, though, but saving just one can be invaluable to all us here!
so..who ya know?..who knows somebody who knows somebody that can help me get a job at a doctors office!! I'm desperate!!! come on people, friends, countrymen help a girl out. I deserve it..trust me..
if someone is giving away jobs that pay 85 thou a year with a free suv and gas to go with it and jobs for friends ( i have two that need jobs, i could give them jobs ) and not really needing to show up to do this job i want one too.
ditto!
Hear hear!!!
I'd like a fat paying job & a car!
I just want a job on STX so I can come back!
Steph,
How bad do you want to come back??
A job might mean a couple jobs & neither what you do now! The service industry is one that is in bad need of!!! Waiting tables is hard work, but the tips could be good if you are willing & attentive. Cooks are even more needed!!! If I get good service, the meal is lousy. And vise versa.
Your spouse could advertise in the Avis for his skills in construction. I think Betty even mentioned this to you in another thread.
This island is hard & unforgiving, you have to work harder here than any other place I've lived. I've had to make many sacrifices in order to stay.......ones that I would have NEVER considered back in the states.
I'm by no means rich or well off, I struggle every day to stay ahead...........but I did that in the states!!!
You just have to make up your mind to follow your heart & work damn hard, make a couple friends & leave the partying to the tourist.
I wish you the very best & know how this place can haunt you once you leave!
