How are employers about telephone interviews? Do they prefer to meet in person before hiring? Also, is the USVI an escrow state? Escrow, as in neutral 3rd party in real estate?

How long do you have to live there before you can be considered a resident for tuition purposes?

What can you tell me about the ferry system, i.e. price, schedules...

Do you get a lot of hurricanes?

Most people aren't able to land a job here over the phone. The exceptions would be if your company transferred you, there is no one on island that can do the job, or timeshare sales. There might be others, but I am not aware of them.

No. Hurricanes happen every year, but they don't usually hit us. We had a bad one in '95, one '89 and one hit in something like '24 or near there. I have been here for 7 years, and Georges (category 2?) hit in '98, but it wasn't anything to worry about. Lots of rain and high winds, no leaves left on the island, but no one got killed or anything. I'd be much more wary if I lived on the East Coast of the US or in FL.

CC: Go to the home page and browse around, as there is a lot of good info.

I assume you are asking about tuition at UVI. You have to be here a year, prove that you paid phone bills, rent, etc. Some students pay out-of-state for a year, but any time you live in the dorm doesn't count toward your year. Some work for a year then start school.
