Hi folks,

I am considering moving to St. Thomas or St. John in November with just a few bucks, a few belongings, and maybe shipping down a motorcycle. I am 33 male and have extensive experience on charter fishing boats, bartending and construction. Just wanted some advice on difficulty of getting a job quickly. Any help appreciated

Send me your resume. We have over 125 charter yachts in the fleet. Can point you towards some good mate jobs. Do you have a Captain's License?

Pamela,

Thank you for your quick response. I am new to this board and could not figure out how to get your email. My email is swonkka@yahoo.com, if you send me your address I will gladly send you a resume and appreciate any help you could give me. I don't have a captain's license currently, but have been looking into getting a sixpac license. I have about 8 years experience on the water out of Gloucester MA, mostly sport fishing. Thank you again for any help you may offer.

Abbi,
I am based on St. Thomas but have him send the resume along and I will post on our members board. He may also want to contact the yacht club or various marinas over there.
Pamela.

Pamela,

I've read some of your postings here and there, and I think perhaps you might can give me some advice. I have a question sort of on the same topic, but with a bit of a twist. I am looking to relocate to the USVI and work on a charter boat. However, I want to bring my own boat which will be a long range trawler - something in the 50' - 65' range - and put her in part time crewed charter service (no bareboat charters), something like two weeks per month, or so, but I want to be part of the crew until I log enough hours to get my own captain's license. I haven't yet found the answer as to where to start with getting my foot in the door. I'm not looking to bring my boat down there and just drop it off and leave it with a charter service under a "partial ownership" type scenario. I live on a boat now and boat life suits me very well - I should turn that passion into what I do for a living and enjoy earning a living instead of going into an office every day (which I do not enjoy)! Any advice?
