Job Prospects
Hello all. I'm new to the message boards. I was wondering if there are many job openings down there on the Islands. I've been to the Islands and have always wanted to move there. It seems that everywhere I look online is not very helpful with job openings. I was wondering if this was due to people not updating them or if these sites are just forgotten projects. I accidentally sent my resume to an employer that posted a job about a year ago because I thought I was looking at recent openings, my fault. Still, it seems that no one is tending these sites or updating listings. If anyone can help with a reliable, up do date job opening site, or literature it would be greatly appreciated.
Bobbo: Welcome to the Moving Center.:-) You might want to spend a bit of time reading through the archives here. Look at the info bar above where it says "pre-move", "island life", "employment", etc. Basically, unless you have some specialized training- nurse, doctor, teacher, that sort of thing- you will probably have to be here to find work.
I'm a teacher and was hired while I was in the states. Like East Ender said, unless you are a doctor or nurse or in education, you'll need to get down here to actually land a job.
If you work in the service industry (restaurant, especially) or in sales (jewelry, especially), I think once you come down you shouldn't have a big problem finding something, if you have experience. But those industries won't hire you over the phone and probably won't pay attention to any emailed resumes.
The only reason my partner and I could move down here is because we had guaranteed jobs and began receiving our regular paychecks within a week of our move. Once you get here you'll quickly realize how expensive life is -- I wouldn't want to take the risk, unless I had some savings to rely upon.
