Job Market
My wife and I are looking to relocate to St. Croix in the next year or so. Currently, we live in Lexington, Kentucky where I practice law and she works in property management and does photography on the side. We're in the process of paying off the vast majority of our debt before we move and are planning a 10-day PMV in February (during which I will take the VI Bar Exam).
One of my biggest questions is what is the job market like in the VI for law, property management, and/or photography? Everything that I've researched has conflicting reports of job availability and job postings are slim compared to the mainland. Is the market able to support solo practitioners or start-ups?
I would love to speak with anyone who has insight into any of the aforementioned career fields and try to get some information from someone with first-hand experience. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

there is a gallery in town that might be willing to sell her work? not really sure whose work they sell and how they determine that.
https://www.facebook.com/Artthursday check out this page-they should have a list of the local galleries
or are you talking portraits?
As far as law practice is concerned I have many friends in the field past and present who relocated here. For what it's worth, they all started out working for an established practice or within the court system and many of them eventually (and successfully) went into practice on their own. Good luck!
She would probably do wedding/engagement photography for the main source of her photography income, but she also does other forms that she displays in galleries.
You'd probably get a better idea of job market by networking with local VI Attorneys
thru the VI Bar Association. As far as property management goes, there are quite a few property management/Real Estate companies and smaller vacation rental businesses so it just depends on type of position and who's hiring at the time you're looking.
As far as photography goes, depends on type, I would imagine.
You can check jobs on Craig's List, the local paper, the Avis when you're here as they
are not online or the Virgin Islands Daily News,(DN has a subscription cost to view entire paper with classified section) the Island Trader/St. Croix Trader (?) classified (free online) or local phone book. www.viphonebook.com
Also can check www.vicareers.com
Sorry, that's careers.vi
There is a current listing on the online newspaper called THE SOURCE for an Associate Attorney position.
I agree with OT that many attorneys have moved here and worked for local firm until familiar with life and work in the USVI and then started there own practice. If you are comfortable with island life, you should be able to develop your careers here in the islands. Welcome to the islands!
Here is link to the job listing titled: Associate Attorney Position Available

That job announcement is the funniest thing I've ever read. No firm name, it says submit to anonymous email account, etc. Looks like a phishing/hacking scam LOL 😀

As a very recent graduate you've probably not been in the job market long enough to know that this sort of ad is perfectly normal. There are many reasons why a business which is hiring doesn't initially provide information which identifies them and there's nothing phishy/hacky about it.
In this small community, it is not unusual for an employment listing to eliminate the name of the firm to avoid calls, walk in applicants, etc. Please note this listing was on a well known and respected ONLINE newspaper site and the employer paid $$ for the classified job listing.
The SOURCE (newspaper) could probably confirm that it is a legitimate job listing without providing name of the firm.
I provided a similar classified over 5 years ago with an anonymous email just to hire a specific office position. It worked and a good employee was hired.

When hiring for my business I did exactly the same thing for exactly the same reasons.
