Keep "a lot" of jeans? How many is "a lot"? A couple of pair would be good on those chilly nights when the north wind is a blowing....like now.

I've lived here for over 7 years and I bought my first pair of jeans last year, for a trip to Michigan. I've only worn them two or three times since.

My friends just got back from Trinidad, and some others were in the French West Indies. They said locals wear jeans "all the time" no matter the heat...i dont know for what reason. Is that true of people born in the VI? Maybe the acclimate to the weather better...

You're right, Meg, people in the VI generally wear jeans all the time, including me. It seems to me that the ones who have relocated here from the mainland tend to take advantage of their "newfound warmth" by not wearing them.

I have worn my jeans a lot more than I thought I would. The night time temperatures can definitely be cool when the breeze is kicking in this time of year. It is also nice at night to have your legs covered and reduce your target size for the mosquitos.

Hello,

Jeans are not associated just with cold weather here, so they are pretty common.

In my observations in the VI and on other Caribbean islands, wearing shorts isn't to popular for West Indian men; jeans and slacks being more common. And you are more likely to see the older women wearing skirts, slacks or dresses rather then shorts. Young/mid aged women shorter skirts, jeans, dresses, shorts.

If you like wearing jeans bring a few pairs. You will wear them to the movies, bars, casual restaurants, grocery shopping... Also bring capris, you won't be as chilly as you would with shorts but not as hot as jeans or long pants. Bring a few light sweaters if you are working in an air conditioned office. Definately no heavy fall or winter wear. Think Spring/Summer.

Do bring some jeans because there really aren't that many shops to buy them here. You will find them, but not a variation in style or brand. As is the same with clothes & shoes in general.
