Actually you're right.
You can light the stove top on the new electronic ballast ones but not the ovens. (That I know how to do, at any rate) Simpler is always better.

So....propane stove, spare tank, generator!

Wonder how the outages, short and long, off and on effect the meters?

They shouldn't affect the meters any more than turning on/off your appliances. Meters don't care about power fluctuations.

So no brown outs, stabilizing of power is recorded?

The meters are designed to measure power (kW). If you are able to consume power during a brown-out (low voltage) they will still record how much actual power you use regardless of supply voltage. Some stuff may try to run on a lower voltage during brown-out (light bulbs, water heater) while other stuff simply will not.

So power still out.

I do have a whole house surge protector and am presently on generator power.

One thing I learned was that the home I purchased in FL also has one
but as opposed to my buying and paying to have electrician installed,
it can be purchased thru Duke Energy. You pay a monthly surcharge
and your appliances and electronics are covered for damages.

After being so dependent on my generator here, I'm going to be having generator withdrawals.

So the surge arrester installation is a one time cost and your paying a monthly fee for insurance. Wonder how hard the hoops are to jump through to submit a claim.

At least in FL you can have your genny plumbed to the Nat gas so you don't have to worry about storing and running out of fuel.

Yes. Think it's a one time fee of around $40 for the surge arrester which had already been installed at the house I purchased so didn't have to pay for it and then a small monthly surcharge for the appliance/electronic coverage. No idea about the hoops to submit a claim but it's got to be easier than getting most things done here. I opted for paying the surcharge since FL seems to be the lightning capital. At least, you have the option. Had too many appliances, TVs, etc. wrecked over my decades here with WAPA so nice to have a choice.

I was able to do everything over the phone and everyone was extremely pleasant and helpful. Same with setting up other utilities and services.

Jeeze, even in the supermarket or other stores, people working there go out of their way to help you find what you're looking for.

No idea what time WAPA finally came back on last night as I fell asleep before the scheduled time but apparently it was island wide and affected STJ, too.

Thanks for the info about natural gas for a generator.
I'll be looking into that once I get settled in as the thought of not having a generator after living here and the reliance I've had on having one leaves me feeling insecure not having any.
