islander at heart
i've always wanted to move to an island. i've lived in nyc all my life but i think i'm an islander at heart. it wasn't until a friend mentioned he thought about going to the usvi's that i actually thought it could be possible. now my husband i are considering move there in a few years. this message board rocks! i have plenty of questions to ask but i'll keep it slow at first. while surfing the net for info i've seen that there are some good prices for condos on stx but i don't know if they are in "good" or "bad" neighborhoods since i've never visited. can anyone give me an idea of which neighborhoods are better than others but still relatively affordable?
There are some very inexpensive Condos in the downtown Christiansted area of STX on what realtors refer to as condo row. (St C by the Sea, Colony Cove, Mill Harbour among others).
Why are there so many condos in this area on the market for so cheap? Location, location, location! To get to condo row you drive through a housing project. Also there is an ongoing and very unpleasant problem with the sewers in this part of town.
Look on St Croix's east end. You can find one bedreeom units for $60K $90K and two bedroom units for $130K - $170K. Condos on the east end in this price range can be found at Coakley Bay and The Reef. There are many other very nice condo developments that are newer and perhaps fancier in the $200K range and up.
Keep in mind that even though real estate prices are reasonable on STX the condo fees and insurance premium are very high.
Hope this helps.
