island wide power outage
just another day in the virgin islands with a little wind. or generator problems yet again
Few public utilities suck as much as WAPA.
Time to fire up those generators. Again.
WAPA working together for you!
"WAPA ALERTS: Electrical service has been restored to customers on St. Croix with the exception of those on Feeders 6A and 10A following a island-wide service interruption earlier today. Line crews are making repairs to damaged lines on both feeders. Full restoration is expected by noon."
"WAPA ALERTS: A major electrical service interruption is affecting the island of St. Croix. All generation capacity at the Estate Richmond Power Plant was lost at approximately 8:14 am during attempts to restore service to a feeder which tripped earlier in the day. All efforts are being made to restore service at the power plant and eventually to all customers."
"WAPA ALERTS: Approximately 3,045 customers on St. Croix Feeder 6A are experiencing an electrical service interruption. The interruption occurred at 6:03 am and inclement weather now being experienced on St. Croix is delaying a line crew being dispatched to determine the cause of the service interruption. Once crews are deployed, they will determine the cause of the interruption, make any necessary repairs and restore service to the affected customers."
"BTW-We will be closed on Dec 31-Jan 2"
Guess which feeder I'm on.
So I guess the Christmas Winds were a surprise to WAPA. Now that there aren't as many stateside linemen it's back to inefficiency and half ass work
This forum seems to be the HDQ for every Continental dissatisfied with the reality of life in the Virgin Islands. This place is not for everyone and if you guide yourself via Jimmy Buffet, better watch a few Pirate Movies.

Actually, a lot of us have lived here for many years and try to enlighten the newbies of the challenges ahead of their move to the VI.
I have to give WAPA a credit. Over the last 2 months power outages have been short and not that frequent. It used to be daily event. Now it’s down to 3-4 per month and lasting minutes. November 8 was bad. 3 hours and 10 min.
