* I will be moving to ST.Thoams with a permenat positon there and I am having a hard time finding an apartment or roomate there. It seems as though I would have to be there b/4 I can get a good idea about rentals. Please give me any info that you can about where to find reasonable priced living arrangements.

Thanks

Shay: Yes, you pretty much have to be here "b/4" you can find out about rentals. Believe me, you are going to want to look at the place for one thing!!! You might find an apartment with no stove (!) or other suchness...Getting some short term housing like Villa Fairview until you get your "island legs" then looking around for more permanent digs is my advice! 😉

If you want to start calling places about apartments you cand do this by getting the Island Trader and the Daily News Paper. You can order these from http://www.vitraders.com from the vacation kit option - choose newspapers that you want. Then you can call the listings and ask the questions you want to know about. However this is as far as you can go without being on island.

Most apartments are part of a home, or in some cases a few apartments in a building. They range in cleaniness, parking, good location... so it is a great great idea to look at several, maybe 5-10 diferent places and comparing them - seeing which you prefer, which is a good location to where you job is ect. and then choosing.

To choose an apartment from away, without seeing it, is not recommendable - unless of course you choose to pay a real estate agent or something to make a viewing and decision for you - in which case you will be sending money for them to do it - when you may have come out the same in terms of cost -of staying in a b&b and looking for one yourself.

No easy way to do it without being on island.

And for roommates - highly unlikely you will secure this while away. It is not a common thing in the VI - roommates are usually friends that you might meet after living here for a little while. Looking for roommates ads are rather rare.
