Island Christmas?...
My B/F and I will be in STT just in time for Christmas, so I am just wondering what to expect. A couple postings say that Christmas is big down there, but are there any festivals or special places that people go to on or around Christmas?
I think it's going to be tough to be somewhere brand new for the holidays (without friends or family), so I was just wondering what the mood of the island may be like.
Thanks!
The Christmas/holiday season runs long... through 3 Kings Day on January 6th. Expect government offices, schoola, banks, post office, etc. to be closed much of the time from about December 20th until after 3 Kings Day. School resumes January 9 or 10. There is a big festival and carnival on STX for 3 Kings Day. STT's carnival is later in the spring.
Lindsey13: How Christmassy is St Thomas? Well, today (November 10th), the Food Center is completely decorated in red bows and "Celebrate" posters. Of course it is advertising for Johnny Walker Red, but it is a very early Christmas decoration!!!
Look for the Miracle on Main Street celebration December 17th. Also, the Pistarckle Theater's production of "It's a Wonderful Life" December 1-3, 9-11 and 16-18. There are house lighting competitions. The Havensight tree lighting party. The Christmas morning caroling at Emancipation Garden. Lots of stuff! And as Alexandra says, you can always go over to St Croix. Just look in the paper and Island Trader, ask around.
Thanks for the info! I think if the island is cheerie, it'll make it easier being somewhere new
Hello,
Check the events schedule on our sister site, here is the link directly to the schedule http://www.vinow.com/general_usvi/local_events/. There are several holiday events during December.
