Good Afternoon all,

I've am inquiring as to what are the market opportunites for computer training(MicroSoft, Cisco,Oracle...) in STX? I've been in IT for 13 years and have a training school in DC and would be like to open one in STT/STX. Thank you for your response.

Hi, as a former IT professional whos spent the last few years on St Thomas I'd have to say not really...

I know there has been a couple times that its been tried with little result, the demand just isn't exactly there.

Not to say that it couldn't work, just that it hasn't in the past. I guess if it were a carefully nurtured business it might succeed, then again it might not. There would probably end up being more demand for tutoring and low leve certifications like the various Microsoft MCP's, CompTia A+/N+ and the like.

Hope this is at least a little helpful...

Dave

Hello there. I am a complete computer loser, but I do know that there is a television ad for a school for teaching people computer programs and the school is located on STX. I will have to watch it more closely, and if I can get a number for the school, I'll pass it along.

I imagine if people, especially young people, are going to school for this, they just might want to learn it at home as well. Not really sure

You may want to check with the division of Vocational Rehabilitation as well. Often, they can access quickly grant money for training programs for people who have been displaced from employment due to an accident. For example, a linesman may need to do something completely new after a fall. I did this in in Connecticut for Human Services Training. It was a sixteen week course, 2K per student, and I received around 45 students in one geographic area, about the size of St. Croix per year.

Just another idea.

Warmly,

Dan
