Is it legal to drive golf carts and ATV's on public roads?
The thing that amazes me the most is I see alot of people drinking beer openly while driving, that cant be legal is it?!?!
I also notice that you can purchase alcohol at 18
There is no open container law in the VI so yes, it's completely legal. That said, if a cop pulls you over for something and you've got a beer in your hand you're probably making whatever minor thing he pulled you over for worse. The drinking age is 18 here but I see kids as young as 14 in bars from time to time and nobody seems to bother carding. One of my first experiences on STT was walking into a store down on the waterfront and buying a case of beer and the "clerk" in the booze section selling it to me couldn't have been older than 11, very bizarre when you've lived in the states your whole life.
I remember walking into a bar here for the first time with my daughter, who was 21, but looked much, much younger. After we got our drinks, I asked the bartender out of curiosity what the drinking age was. He looked at me directly, not my kid, and said "Why, how old are you?". A joke, but obviously meant to avoid asking my daughter her age. I've never seen anyone "card" anybody here, even though I'd bet my house sometimes that the patrons were underaged.
I see this post is a few years old. Does anyone know if now you can drive a road legal golf cart if it has a title and lights, turn signals, horn, etc?
Best to check directly with Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Don't see any on roads here in STT.
Doris Jaden used to drive one in STJ but that was ages ago.
I very much doubt it but you should call the STX Bureau of Motor Vehicles at 340-713-4268. The number which Alana provided is St Thomas.

Even if you could, I wouldn't dare, IMHO. Plus the lack of speed will turn you into a nuisance for faster vehicles.
It seems okay for the cops to drive their homeland security toys around the streets and the Housing Authority has golf carts.

Unfortunately, some government employees and representatives do as they please. If they want to place themselves in danger or be crash test dummies, so be it. A "golf cart"/ATV is not designed for major roadways. IMHO, life is priceless and I wouldn't want to put myself in a position where a vehicle will not be able to protect me and my loved ones during an emergency. Some of the potholes here are more than twice the diameter of the tires on a golf cart.
To the new OP (JennSeay), just get a car, jeep, truck, or an SUV. I bought a car here from Auto World (RIP), probably the last car they sold before they closed doors for good. It was a car they bought from Centerline Car Rental. The car is still with me. When the time comes to leave I will sell it. Just my 2 cents...
Thanks guys! We're probably just going to ship a jeep over.
Best option. Good luck. Hope all goes well.
